i need help? I bought dark karo syrup, because i ran out of nurtri-cal i also had codliver oil which is in nurti-cal so i've mix both karo- syrup and gave it too coby.. is this ok too use? also i read on line creamy peanutbutters ok for small puppies as well too keep them from going into Hypoglycemia, can someone please confirm this as being true or false ? also i dont know how much karo syrup to give too coby , during the day ...he 's putting on some weight and i don't believe for a minute he's 1.72 LBS anymore .. i need to have him weigh dose anyone know where i can take him too get weigh? besides the vets i'm sure their find a way too charge for something so small.. like weighing a pet, and let not forget their charge for the visit... i was thinking mybe petco might be willing too just weigh him... |
I have only heard of giving the clear karo syrup. Id be afraid the cod liver oil would give loose stools. If Petco has a scale Im sure they'd weigh your baby. Maybe someone else can give you better advise about the dark karo and cod liver oil. |
You can always use Honey. |
I would stay away from the peanutbutter - for the same reason that human babies can't have it until one year old - they could choke because the peanutbutter is sticky and hard for them to swallow. |
You can buuy a kitchen scale at a walmart or store like that fairly inexpensive to get a good idea of the weight. |
ok i'll do that then |
dark karo could make loose stools too. I just put light karo in their water. Is he a good eater? You could try goatsmilk and baby rice cereal. The canned goats milk. 1 part milk to 1 part water |
Isnt Coby going to the vet every few weeks anyways? Laci got all her shots a few weeks apart, they weighed her each time!! If your going to run into petco to have Coby weighed you could get some nutrical there its fairly inexpensive!! |
If you have a local TSC, they will weigh him for you. |

If you have a scale at home, you can weigh yourself, then hold Coby and weigh again. Subtract his weigh from yours...that should give you a good idea. I hope Coby is ok.:) |
my vets close on weds and coby not due in until like oct for kennle cough is his next vac other then that he was up too date oh his vacc i i was just wondering about what karo syrup too use so i guess clear would be better,, the nurti-cal dosnt last |

The thing about weighing on your own scale is you may be 115 lb 2 oz and the pup may be 2 lbs 8 oz, so the scale may round off and say total 118 when in all reality Yorkie wait does make a difference in ounces to really keep track of them. JMO. I just found a scale on ebay for under $20 free ship and it can weigh a whole back of fruit...up to 11 lbs. So I can use it for multiple things and I'm sure I will. I think I'm gonna Buy it now, I'm looking to make sure no one on YT has one before I do though. Hugs and Kisses everyone! |
if you have a pets mart with a banfield you can weigh him thear for free just askwhen gatsby was really little i take the bowl off the kitchen scale and sit him on hold a treat above his head so he would stay and that worked until he got he got to long to sit without hanging off |
IF he is eating well, gaining weight and otherwise healthy, there is really no reason to keep giving him the Nutrical. I do not give it automatically to all pups. I would try him without, just watch for any signs of hypoglycemia. I would also not use the dark Karo or Codliver oil -- sounds like it would be too likely to cause bowel trouble. I would go in and get some more Nutrical. You need to always have it on hand when you own a toy dog just in case they get sick or otherwise hypoglycemic. I bought a postal scale from ebay, very inexpensive and it has been great to weight the pups. I doubt your vet will charge just for a weigh in. I know mine does not. |
Puppies DO NOT need to be given nutrical as a matter of course. Has your dog had a hypoglycemic episode? If he's 12 weeks old he should not need this anyway. In my 20 years of raising yorkies I've only needed to give honey or karo twice |
Just out of curiosity, why would you need to give him nutrical on a regular basis anyways??? If he's eating well and is not sick or hypoglycemic, he probably won't even need nutrical. My vet once told me that if you don't have nutrical at home and get into an emergency situation, try corn syrup. |
That was an automatic at my Vet's first visit with Lexy since she was only 1lb and already 14 weeks she made me come home with a tube of nutrical to have on hand. I think it's better too then corn syrup because its more of a gel then syrup and I have it where it's immediately accessible to just squeeze out of a tube and my kids know they can go grap it on an emergency for me and know how to give it. She was never been diagnosed with anything to require it but when she would get sluggish I never wanted to take chances so I gave her some and called my Vet...most cases she was fine later. I give Carly some now that shes prego about one dose a week, just to make sure she is getting the proper nutrients since all it's just a vitamin, I leave our food out all day in an automatic feeder so I don't keep track how much or when they eat...they eat when hungry. |
