Random question about petting your pet I have always wondered this. You know when your dog (or cat) lifts their head and wants you to scratch their jaws? What kind of scratch are they looking for? Do they just want their jaws rubbed, or should you use your nails? Light pressure or medium pressure? Chin, jawline, or where the jaw meets the neck? I feel kind of silly asking this, but I have wondered since I was a little kid. I feel like whatever I do, it isn't right, because the animal moves away. |
I think it may depend on the dog. With my girls, I kind of scratch lightly with my nails. Sometimes I kind of finger comb their beard fur very lighty, and they seem to really like that. Before I had my girls, I had a bullmastiff and as you can imagine I would apply a lot more pressure, but again use my nails, on his drooly mug. |
Aww, don't feel bad. Fancy doesn't like it when I try to finger comb her beard or jawline. She does like me to massage the top of her head and around her ears though. I just use my finger tips and apply just light pressure - she does like to be scratched to though, on her head and back. |
