I have about an hour to decide I swore I'd never do it but I have to take Tyler to petsmart to be groomed.... probably just cut since I'm perfectly capable of washing him myself. Anyways.... he's def. getting that butt of his shaved cause i'm sick of having to cut poo out of his hair. and i'm thinking his tummy.... so should i just get his whole body shaved? if you remember i had to cut out TONS of matts so his hair is all uneven anyways ): he stayed at grandma's and got that way. so shave and just tell them to leave his head alone? i'm so vain when it comes to him but i want him to look nice! Thanks guys... |
Just be sure you are firm and say what you want. There are many good stories about groomers as well as bad lol. Don't forget to post pics. :) |
i know!!! i've heard them and i'm real nervous but i can't shave him myself ): Would you just have him shaved??? i'm so torn i don't know what to do. i tell you though... they touch his head and this will be the worst day they ever had!!! lol |
Well, I am a Petsmart groomer hater so if you have no other choice than to take him there I wouldn't leave him alone. How old is he and is this his first real grooming? The grooming always includes a shampoo so I would take advantage of that for sure. IMO I would let the groomer decided if he really needs to be shaved. They have dematting tools that can be used so he really might not be as bad as you think. Usually, I ask my groomer for the "sanitary package" who of course she knows means the butt and the underside of their body around the private area. If you want the topknot be very specific that they are not to touch that area. Ask for the ears to be "tipped" and if they need to shave him specify to leave the face long. :) Post some pics when he comes home :) |
Why dont you get a little of both. Say you want a puppy cut on his face..that will leave you with some hair.. and tell them you want like a trim on his body, legs and you want a sanitary cut on his bum and wee wee! I get pnuts hair on his body 1/4 if that makes sense to you and I tell them to give him a puppy cut on his face |

I would never have Tia shaved because its never that warm here in the UK and she will get a chill for sure.Your choice lol:D |
I wouldn't leave him alone with the groomer. Stay right there so you intervene if they start to cut something you don't want cut or done a certain way. Good luck! |
He isn't matted, he's just uneven.... and to me he looks sloppy! How much does a normal cut cost? Gee I might have to write all this down!! LOL |

I think if you are nervous about taking him to Petsmart and you are second guessing it then you should look around for a groomer you TRUST!! :D |
Yeah if I were you I wouldnt stress on only having an hour to make up your mind. I think you should research and find a groomer you trust and like, rather than taking him to Petsmart. Plus it is his first gromming trip so you want it to be the best for him and feel comfortable. |

Puppy cut with sanitary shave Ear tipping Face long  Not sure how much they will charge but my groomer charges me $20 a dog but she has her own business out of her home. |
I've had good experiences with two PetSmart stores now so I take my Skeeter in when I can't get him in to the groomer. I just say give him a puppy cut and they do a great job. You could specifically ask them to just even him out but you will probably end up with a puppy cut just the same. |
Okay.. I was just staring at him and I decided not to shave him. We're gonna go with the puppy cut.... and it BETTER NOT be $20 lol. He's only 5 lbs. of nothing. I think he'll do just fine since I bathe and groom him regularly... only thing I don't do is the sanitary shave. What is ear tipping? |
my petsmart was a good groomer they did just what i asked just remember to be specific or they will take some libertys when i had gatsby groomed it was $35 for bath teeth nails and a trim on his body but not his face or head they did a good job but all the other dogs and people coming in and out scared him so i switched to a private groomer |

Ear tipping is when they shave the top 1/3 of their ears. I thini it is a standard for yorkies. It looks good! |

now i need advice on how to clip and shave  |

Truth is $20-35 is a steal. Down here in miami grooming goes for 50&up. Hope you learn to do it yourself though :). |
I live in NC as well and yes, that price is a very average fee. I pay $20.00 just for a sanitary clip with no shampoo for my boy. I pay $38.00 for a full clipping with shampoo for my oldest female. Then you need to remember the tip which I give $5.00 per dog. I have thought of learning to do this also... I was a beautician for many years and yet I am scared to clip my dog LOL Crazy I know!!! |
I spend $40-$45 on Maddie's cuts. I have an excellent groomer though so I don't mind. I usually trim her up myself, but each summer we get a shorter cut. I know some have had good experiences at PetSmart groomers, but ours was HORRIBLE! I still think she was given something. She was very lethargic for a day or two after. I was also chewed out b/c she was considered 'difficult'. She only weighed 5-6 lbs at the time. I hope you learn do groom yourself or find one you trust.:D |
yea i guess that price was normal but i figure why pay that much for something i can learn to do myself... i'm not in that much of a rush!!! |
1 Attachment(s) I've always had to pay $50 around here to get Jackson groomed. I got so many estimates. All the mobile groomers were around $80! I got Jackson shaved for the summer in June and she left the head/tail long-ish. I liked it and he LOVED it during the hot summer weather. He was also uneven from his mommy (aka me!) trying to cut him. I've gotten a LOT better though! So he's not going to the groomer as often. I think I'm just going to take him once every 6 months or so now for a professional clean up. Saves me soooo much money in the long run but it's always different when the professionals do it.... This was him shaved, but head kept long... and seriously within 2 weeks, the hair on the back had already gotten longer. |
