To Clip or Not to Clip? Dose anyone else keep their yorkie clipped short? Or is it just me? :confused:I would really like to see other pics as I have to take Leah to the groomers and would love to takes pics along to show her. |
1 Attachment(s) This is Rowdy about 2 weeks out from the groomers. We always have him clipped about 1 inch all over. |
2 Attachment(s) ROWDY!!!!! How cute is he???? I keep both Simon and Hallie short and I love it. These aren't the best pics but I think they show their haircuts pretty well! |
I'd say that Simon and Hallie are the CUTEST TOO!!!!!! I LOVE their haircuts - especially the face in pix #1 (sorry, I don't know if that is Simon or Hallie?????? Oh! And I ADORE your avatar!!! |
3 Attachment(s) I actully debated on this myself, and today was the day, I took Bridget from long hait to super short, but I really love the look now! Plus clothes are looking way better, and no more matts!!! |
2 Attachment(s) Last time we took Capone to the groomer's he got a "summer" cut. His coat is so easy to manage. We really love it. |
Oh Marlee - Bridget is absolutely adorable! She has the sweetest face and such a gorgeous expression. |
1 Attachment(s) the only one I keep clipped down is "Cappie" his coat is modified so it is much easier to keep up! |
Capone and Cappie - they are BOTH so cute!!!!! |

1 Attachment(s) Here's Chewy. He's a life-time short-hair buddy. I don't think we'll ever grow his hair long -- except for maybe his head hair: we have this idea of getting him a heavy-metal theme outfit and leash, with a mullet hair-do. For now, we have a nice all-over supershort cut with a gently trimmed face. |
1 Attachment(s) I love all these haircuts. Simonandhallie, that's the perfect length. They are so cute. And feminvstr, you are a pro. We cut Eddie short because snow clings to longer hair, but even in a warmer climate, I don't think my wife and I would have the patience to brush him as often as needed to keep long hair looking good. I've got nothing but respect, though, for those who adhere to the breed standards. We usually tell the groomer to cut it at 1/2 inch. One time, we did a quarter inch. It looked short, but it grew back fast. |
I love all the short haircuts, but I can't help it. I just love long hair on yorkies. Call me crazy, but I actually like to brush/bathe etc. I keep Liv's back end all cleaned up, but everything else is long. I'm betting by March, her coat will be floor length. Then maybe I'll cut it all off  |
It is good to see there are other parents that keep their little one's clipped short. I was so worried when we cut Capone's coat that he wouldn't look like a Yorkie anymore. I ended up falling in love with his new look. I enjoy seeing all the pics of your adorable babies. Cappie and Bridget have beautiful coloring! |
I love the pictures! Thanks for posting them. I'm going to have to keep Joey short, I think. His cottony coat tangles badly even though I comb him everyday. Your pups look so cute. I hope I can find someone here who will cut him like yours are - about an inch all over. |
An inch can be nice, and winter IS coming on, but I might encourage even shorter for a pup who has a tendency to develop naps. Chewy's legs had real problems for a while and no matter that we de-matted him every two days, he always had more developed. We took him down to a 1/4" - 1/2" cut and he's doing GREAT with that. This also buys us more time before he has to go through being groomed again. We let it grow back out to about and inch and a half or more before retrimming him. For my money, I like Chewy as short as I can get him without him being at risk for sunburn! |
We keep Graff cut short. His hair mats so easily and he just looks better short. With his issues with strange people the less he has to go the better. Haylee is just 9 weeks old so I don't know about her. I am brushing her every day so that she will get used to it. I would love to leave her hair long but will just have to wait and see. I know I want her head hair long so that she can wear pretties in her hair. By the way her breeder send me a picture of her that she had taken at 7 weeks old. If someone can tell me how I will post it as I still haven't found the stuff for my camera. Or I can email it to someone and they can post it for me. Lora Graff and Haylee |
All of these short hair yorkies are so cute! I love all the pictures, they are so adorable!!! |
Awesome pictures -- you all have adorable babies! I keep both my pooches clipped short and I love it. |
2 Attachment(s) Thanks everyone the photos are great! :) Last time I got Leah clipped she had her face cut short as well is this normal??? The photo is of her at the moment but hair is starting to grow in her line of vision. (This is how I tell she needs a cut) Dose anyone clip their own dogs? and if so do you have any tips? She is eatting carrot in the photo... she also loves cucumber  |
Leah has nearly the same coloring as Chewy, tan and silver! NICE! I have not yet trimmed him myself, as I didn't have hte heart to use that noose thing that groomers use, and I didn't have him trained well enough to let me do it without some kind of restraint. Now, I will probably do it myself. I'd say that clippers with a #2 guard would be the way to go for the body. #1 guard if you are feeling bold! Consider using scisors to trim the bangs and area around the face into a pleasing shape (and out of the field of vision). You may want to do some fake trimming sessions first to get your pup used to scisors in face. You want to be careful to acciedentally poke them in the eye :D |
