Dixie's a jumper!! Is yours? Just wondered how many here have little yorkies who seem like they have jumping beans in their little bodies. My little dixie who is almost 1 and a half years old jumps and jumps. We have replaced baby gates that she everytime can jump over when we did not think she could. She decides to run thru the house about 3:00am. She is not alone as she has my twin daughters yorkies with her at night. She is so willfull and just wants to do what she wants all the time. She is so darned bad but so darned cute and I love her so very much. I don't know if this is just the way females are or not. My daughters yorkies are the same age but males. They don't jump like she does and are content to stay in their beds in the kitchen area at nite, not Dixie! My poor husband has worked all weekend making plexiglass doors for the two doorways in my kitchen, a smooth surface that has no place where she can get her little feet on it to help her with her jumping ability. And it is going to be at least half the height of the doorway. She is 9 pds of pure sweetness and I love her so much but I sure wish she wasn't such a jumper. How do yours do?:rolleyes: |
Well, I don't gate Fancy anymore but when I did she never jumped over it or anything. The only time she jumps now is when she is trying to get my attention to pick her up! :p |
Hannah jumps all the time. She's like a kangaroo. She's always hopping. I used to worry all the time about her breaking her legs. I just pray often........;) |
Both of my dogs are jumpers. Baby gates need not apply. Chester can jump straight up on to the dining room table!!! With our new puppy, I don't know if I will be able to get a Christmas tree this year. He will pee all over it, I have no doubt, and I don't know how to block it off from him. Chester I trust, but my puppy (chihuahua/pomeranian/rat terrier) has all the worst qualities from each of those breeds. I didn't think 11lb dogs could do the high jump!! :eek: |
I now have to crate the cat so he can eat if i leave it on the food platform he jumps to eat it if i leave it on top of the buffet he jumps to eat it if i leave it on top of the 5and 1/2foot cat post he jumps on the couch then the shelf then the catpost then he cries because he cant get down if i lock the cat in a room he somehow opens the door so in short yes i have a jumper |
Mine jump, but like on the couch. I usually get them all excited when I am feeding them, and they will see who can jump the highest. |
It is funny how some are jumpers and others are not. Ben and Sadie were not really jumpers. Ben does not seem to be able to jump very well. Not sure if it is all of his hair or what. Sadie was never a jumper and I know she could have been, she was just a little quiet, lady-like doll. Rocky, however, will jump on, off of, or over anything. He scares me to death with his antics. It's like you are a little proud that he can do it, but scared that he will do it when no one is around and hurt himself. So, we are working hard on training him NOT to be such a jumper. I do still let him jump up in the air -- he has a lot of fun doing that for treats. I think he feels he can out-jump the other dogs and get their treats too. ;) |
Jumping Yorkie :aimeeyork I have a jumper... 4 1/2 pound mexican jumping bean. She can get over a 2 ft gate, had to get 3 foot for the kitchen doorways. Also does it for attention. Has no fear of falling - not like me... I worry about her falling and her patellas... |
My Max is a jumper (even those EXTRA tall baby gates - like 30" something?)... so we always double gate. I wish he would learn to respect his boundaries! :rolleyes: |

LOL.... mine are almost 5mths, they are too small to actually jump on things, but I swear they have springs in their back legs. They just jump straight up and down for the pure joy of jumping. I figure it's good for them as they are probably strengthening their legs? But, yes they jump...all the time..jumping beans is a very apt description. |
Are you sure she's jumping. Krystal used to clime up the x-pen so I stopped using it so she wouldn't hurt herself. Other than that she is a flying squirrel |

My 2 girls are very different. Sydney will jump on and off the couch, jump down off the bed and things like that. Emmie will not jump. The only time she will stand on back legs to get a treat. That is all. She will not go down steps or up steps. My husband says she is very spoiled and does not need to because mommy will carry her and she knows it. My mom's yorkie Gracie will jump on or off anything. She can jump over baby gates. I have never seen a dog jump like her. It makes me a nervous wreck just watching her. |
awwwww she just wants to sleep with you! Is there anyway you can put a bed at then end of your bed for her and train her to stay in her bed at night? I do that with my boys now, they would howl all night long if I tried to gate them away from me at night. I just shut my room door and have them sleep in their bed next to me. My Fletcher is a jumper.... luckily he does not get the forward motion while jumping, else he'd be over everything! LOL He just jumps straight up, but he can jump about 3 - 4 feet off the floor! Crazy! :) |
Sometimes I think my Bailey ( male) is part rabbit, I think he has springs in his legs..he scares me sometimes because he is so tiny I'm always worried he will hurt himself! :rolleyes: __________________ |
Oh I have a jumper and climber. I put her in the yard once in a 6 foot fenced area. She didn't stay 5 minutes. She jumps and hangs on half way up like spiderman and climbs over the top. There is no where I can contain her so I stopped trying..lol I like to put mine out on pretty days to play while I clean but I can't her. I have to go with her everytime. I put her downstairs once and she got mad and tore my dryer vent out and was outside looking at me through the window. I thought she was magic until I figured out what she was doing...lol I swear if there is a crack anywhere that light is showing that dog will escape. Good thing she is not a runner. If she gets out she goes to the porch and looks in the window at me. LOL |
unless you call "hopping 3 times trying to get on the couch" a jumper then yeah Tuck is a jumper..lol... no he's not a jumper, he is too stocky to be a jumper.. but my 4 pound toy poodle on the other hand, should of been put in agility classes..:) |

It's has an old-fashion height to it. But watching her land she looks like she's floating before landing. But my concern is when she's older that will catch up with her. So when I can, I try to catch her before she decides to jump off the bed and set her down myself. She is 1 1/2 years old also. Just puts a smile on your face. |
Jumper!! I have sworn Pebbles needed to be named Thumper (my bunny rabbit). We live on stilts at the river. She jumps 3 feet out the back door & skips the last 3 steps down to the ground every time she goes out. She's also the one that jumps to find a pee spot , talks to you constantly & will bring the ball back to you 1000 times! She's a trip. |
