baby is going bald...help? Hi,my name is September and I just joined. Our Bella is losing hair on her back...she is always scratching, her skin is very dry there. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do for her? My husband came with her ;) and I have no knowledge or experience with this breed of dog. She is about 5 human years old, and does not have fleas...and it is just in the one area that her skin dries up. My husband says it's normal for this breed..but? Thanks. |
Ugh, Uni scratches on her back ALL THE TIME! She gave herself a mullet! The hair along her spine/shoulder blades is about 1" long, and the rest of her hair on her sides are about 6" long! I thought it was allergies, so I switched her food to no corn, no grain. Then I was giving her omega fish oils, but she ended up hating it. Anyway, she is still doing it... I switched her shampoo/conditioner to Biogroom, and it is better on the hair, and breaking off less, but not solving the problem. Maybe someone else can help? I'd like to hear it too. Lots of babies have this problem. |
Oh here's the thread for free biogroom samples. You can read the reviews. I love it! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...m-samples.html |

Oscar lost a large patch of hair on his back just below his shoulder blades. He had a skin scraping done and they found Demodex mites which were all dead indicating a previous infestation. The vet also thinks it could be something called immune mediated vasculitis. He's on steroids now and hopefully his hair will grow back. He has a comb-over to hide the bald spot. He doesn't itch anymore, but I would suggest using a mild aloe and oatmeal shampoo and even try tea tree oil to help with the itching. |

I was also going to suggest it might be demodex. Does it have a motheaten look? Do you have him on heartworm medication? If not, ask your Vet about Advantage Plus. It should get the mites to become non-active again. All dogs have mites - it's when they become active (could be due to stress or whatever) that they cause hair loss and itching. First of all, you should get a qualified Vet to examine your dog. Good luck. |
