I need some advice!! Hi - I rescued a second Yorkie about a month ago and she's a sweetheart. I got her partly because I was going back to work part time and didn't want my male to be alone. They get along fine for the most part but we do have some sharing issues. My male does not want her to have any toys and if I buy them both something he takes both of them and won't share!! Also, we have an issue with her barking at my husband a lot. He has been nothing but kind and loving to her but she barks whenever she sees him. Sometimes she will let him pet her a little but most of the time just backs up when he tries. When he comes home from work or gets up in the night she barks at him a lot and sometimes jumps down and goes right up to him??:confused::confused: Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions??? |

What do you mean by issues? Explain exactly what happens. Do you know what kind of rescue situation she came out of? Could she have been abused by a man? Maybe she has never been around many men and she is scared..but this is an easy fix. Have your husband when he comes home from work always have a treat in his hand so she thinks... ah nice man gives me treats. He might not be so up for this at night :p but maybe you could keep a few treats by the side of the bed. |

Make hubby the giver of all treats and food. It might take awhile, but she will warm up to him. |
Thanks everyone - I thought of the treat idea and will have him try that - Last night he picked up my male and she jumped on his lap and started kissing him so who knows - maybe she wanted to protect the male??? The sharing thing involves mostly the male not wanting her to have any of his toys. But sometimes she will grab what he has just to tease him. But sometimes they get into a really heated argument that I have to break up. Her previous owner kept her penned for 10 hours or so while she worked - she didn't have any other companions either. Not sure about the male involvement I know there was a boyfriend there??? I think it is probably a matter of both of them getting used to having a companion too as they were both alone before. My male got LOTS of attention but he is just a sweetie and loves everyone.:rolleyes: |
