New to Site! Question on weight of my yorkie I just got my yorkie from a breeder about 3 days ago and I am absolutely IN LOVE!! But I've been a little puzzled by his size because he is about 4 lbs at 8 WEEKS! His mom and dad were about 6 and 7 lbs. Is it possible he can weight a lot now but his growth slow down as he gets older?? If not, does that mean I am looking at a yorkie at over 10 lbs full grown?!?! |
He will be about 12 lbs. You triple the 8 week weight and that gives you the adult estimate of weight |
Is it possible that he was being overfed? She did say this was the first time she bred yorkies. He is quite tiny/little, just very fat! LOL. He's so adorable though!! |
All puppies are chubby. Its not unusual for a pup to pass up his mom and dad in weight. There are alot of factors that go into genetics and it could be he had a bigger grandparent |
Not to scare you but my Jake was 3 1/4lbs at 8 weeks and now at 4 yrs old he is a whooping 19lbs and my vet said he is the biggest yorkie he ever saw but he is not over weight at all. Congrats on your baby :D |
Wow... Its crazy how much they can vary in size! |
I had a litter of puppies that were estimated to be 9 - 10 lbs full grown. The father is known to throw bigger puppies that slow down in growth. Not one of those puppies went over 5 lbs. Not to say that yours won't get big, because as someone has already stated, the grandparents can factor into it, but the chart is an estimate. Don't get to nervous yet;) |
I guess I will just have to see how big he turns out in the end. I love his temperament and the way he just depends on me. My boyfriend hates that he is ALWAYS right up under me, but I LOVE IT!! He was also quite easy to train (thanks in large part to the breeder crate training him before we got him)... Not one accident in the house yet. Thanx everyone for your responses... they definitely helped! |

:wavey: Hi! :welcome4: Would love to see pictures of your boy. What name have you decided on? |
Just think there will be more to love. I had a 35 lb border collie and now have a 5lb yorkie but I loved them both the same regardless as I'm sure you will . Enjoy.:D |
