"Yorkshire Terrier was developed from a combination of Scottish and English black-and-tan terriers, Maltese, and now extinct Clydesdale Terrier. From each litter the smallest dogs were selected for breeding, and gradually Yorkshire Terrier was “shrank” to the ideal size of what we see today. Silky Terrier was developed in Australia from crossing Yorkshire Terrier and Australia Terrier, when Yorkies were brought to Australia in late 1800s." |
We adopted an adult female last year and always thought she was just a larger yorkie. Now that we have a second yorkie in our house... we are also having thoughts that our female is actually a silky. Their hair is different feeling/looking, their shape is different, they have totally different face shapes. More and more people are asking if she is a mix too. She was being used for breeding before the owners surrendered her to a shelter so we have little background info on her. Glad I found this thread so we can look into it more! |

OMG your little baby looks like my Jersey Boy! The 1st pix in you album caught me by suprise I thought I was looking at Jersey. I wish I had an album up to show you ( I will soon). My Jersey boy has long legs, he has the patch of whitesh gray on his head and his body hair and leg hair looks just like your baby. I was told Jersey was pure yorkie but no papers (not that it matters). our babies are sooooooo cute!!!!!!:animal36:animal36 |
