Question? My boy Teddy Thy has a GORGEOUS coat! I am taking Basil to get her hair cut and have been thinking about getting TT's hair cut too... I LOVE taking care of his hair and LOVE how it shines!!! I just wonder if it would be easier for him to wear clothes without tangling or would it make it worse? I have tons of clothes and put very few on him for short amounts of time, just because I am scared I will knot up his coat. He has never had his hair cut and he is a year old. He is my baby I have in my avatar (he was about 6-7 months old here). What would your advice be? cut or not cut... That tis the question... |
His coat is gorgeous! Hey, if you enjoy caring for it, and he's only wearing the clothes for short periods, I'd leave it. My girls are kept in puppy cuts because I just don't have time to care for a longer coat properly. My tiny Luna has a cottony coat, too, so she knots up quick if it's long. She's always freezing at night, so wears jammies:) |
2 Attachment(s) I jus recently had Harley's cut. He is a year old too. I felt so bad for him when his hair would get tangled. Even playing with the other 2 furbutts he would get all tangled. I only got his hair cut up to his belly. I will attach a picture for you. I like you LOVE his long beautiful coat!!! But, I think for the both of us it is much easier and he does not have to get so many tangles!!! Before and After - I need a better picture of him with his cut but it does look ok! I swore I would never cut his hair. But I am happy with it now! |
That is what I said "I will NEVER cut his hair"! Just winter is coming and I will be wanting for him to wear his clothing more often when we go out. He has never even had a small trim LOL I don't know if I will be able to find the nerve. I have until this weekend to decide... |
You can always leave it long and get a silk-lined coat or jacket. The silk prevents mats and tangles. There are several YT members that custom make clothes. I'm sure they could help you! Either way, he'd be beautiful. |
I figured it out... I will have them clean his belly up but clipping all his man hair (if chu know what I mean LOL) express anal glands (if needed) and trim his toe nails. I could bet money on having a bad dream Friday night picking him up shaved head to toe!!! Poor thing... Gotta buy him some drops to make him a little loopy so he doesn't snap at the lady LOL He has never been groomed before. I did give him a bath tonight (because with all the rain) he was a little dirty. I will tell them they do not need to bathe him... Just the trim :) I am adding a few new pictures of him in my albumn so check it out if you would like. You know he scratched some hair out of his quick fixed pony tail right before snapping LOL |
I would say to maybe cut it, just to get him used to haircuts while he's still young. His coat is absolutely beautiful though! I can see why it's gonna be a hard decision. I started trimming my boys' hair when they were very young (13 weeks for Joey and about 20 weeks for Tank), and they are now pretty good with it. I would just worry that if you take clippers and scissors to a 2 year old dog, would that freak him out to no end? I am not an expert, but I'm just trying to visualize how a first haircut would go if he were older...I wish you the best of luck with your decision! |
