Puppia harnesses I need your help! I've been using the Premier Easy Walk harness on Jackson for a while now. It's amazing and from the first day of using it, he stopped ALL pulling that he ever did. :animal36 He's a wonderful little walker now at 11 mo. old and I think he's capable of walking on a "regular" harness now that he's been trained. I had a step-in harness for him that I got from Target or somewhere -- I just don't think the step-in's will work for us. By the time one foot is in one hole, the other is out, etc, etc. It's a pain in my butt. The Easy walk is sooo easy to just put over his head, and then buckle around his back/stomach. I need your opinions on the Puppia harnesses. I think they're adorable looking. I love the looks of just the regular Puppias ( ![]() Any good experiences with this harness? Are they simple/easy to get on/off? Do they seem to make your dog pull or is that not an issue? Jackson is also around 12.5 pounds so according to the chart, he would fit in a size Large. This sound about right? Also --- opinions, people! Do you like the camo or the blue color? Which one would make him look more handsome? ;) Thanks! :animal-pa |
I don't use that so I am not to sure I use the Buddy Belt. I have heard good things about that one that you are talking about... And I think the blue!! |
I was using the Gooby Freedom Harness for Daisy and it worked well, but I tried the Puppia and like it even better. The neck (which is not adjustable) is a little bigger on the Puppia and goes over her head very easily. Then you just put her left foot in and buckle it under the belly. I tried a step in harness once and I get one foot in and then start to put the other one in and she jerks the first one out. We end up wrestling! Daisy is 7.5 lbs and wears the small. I bought mine on eBay. Make sure they will exchange it if it does not fit. Now that I know her size, I have a couple others in different colors. |
I love the puppia harness when it comes to style and construction. When it comes to the way its manufactured, I've never seen a harness at that low price point that is made as well as it is. I pretty much "died" when I got mine in the mail - I had no worries it would fall apart and would hold up for a long time. I have the sky blue, and its an awesome color. I have one that I bought for Winston that we don't use, largely because I was a bone head and messed up the sizing. With the neck & chest measurements Winston would have fit perfect in the x-sm - but I didn't think about the size of his head and if the non-adjustable neck would fit over it. It didn't (so I had to exchange it and pay to ship it back and have another size shipped to me.) The larger size is a touch too big in the neck and doesn't fit well, so it sits in my closet. (I could return it, and get one of the other styles... the rite fit or the superior harness which allow you to make the neck smaller - but money is tight right now and I can't afford the shipping costs.) You need to look at the neck size (the chest size is super generous, just make sure he fits in the range. The lbs doesn't count for much of anything.) If your dog is on the top end of the neck sizing I recommend you measure his head and make sure it will go over it. If he is on the bottom end, I recommend you go with the adjustable rite fit harness, safety harness or the superior harness that they now make. I went with the regular style wanting to save money and I really regret that now. The neck is too big on Winston and he'll occasionally get a foot caught because the neck gapes just a smidgen too much. (His neck is just over 8 1/2 inches, but his head is about a 1/8th of an inch over 9 inches so I can't get the x-small over his head. our proportions just don't work for the unadjustable simplistic style.) Had I done the smart thing and paid the extra $2 for the superior harness none of the issues we have in the small right now would have been an issue and I'd be a super happy gal. I purchased from k9instyleclassic.com because they had a great selection at a great price, and their customer service has been really great. They were great about me needing to go a size up and worked with me about alternatives since they didn't have the style I purchased in the larger size (in that color at the time). I am simply a happy customer without a usable harness because I am unemployed and can't afford to pay the shipping to them and back to me again. (Just not cost effective when I can try and sell it on ebay to re-coop most of my cost vs paying shipping both way yet again because I was silly.) I do love the puppia haness, and we will be ordering from them again when I can afford it! |

Good luck |
I have the black and camo with matching leashes for Buddy. I have gotten so many compliments on these harnesses. They are awsome for a small breed. They go more around the chest area instead of the throat with is wonderful. I have the M for Buddy, he's so muscular, however, you can tighten the stomach part but you can't the chest part and it's a little loose which is fine with me. So be sure you get the right size. They wash wonderful, dingo tags and all. |
I personally didn't like the Puppia harness. The problem is, Mocha's neck is very tiny, so the neck hole would fit over his head nicely, but then be too loose around his neck. But If I had gone with a smaller size, the neck hole wouldn't have been able to fit around his head at all. The harness was easy to put on him, but it was a pain to take off. The neck hole didn't slide off of his neck as easily as it slid on. So while I was trying to take it off, Mocha would jerk his head/neck around to get his head out of the harness. I didn't like this since I didn't want him to be putting any strain on his tiny little neck. Another problem was, Mocha would often manage to stick one of his feet up through the neck hole. I wouldn't recommend this harness if your dog's neck is much smaller than his head. For breeds like Pugs or Bostons, who have larger necks, I think this harness might work well though. The harness that I recommend to everybody is the Buddy Belt. It's super easy (and takes about 2 seconds) to put on and take off. It's the ONLY harness that Mocha doesn't try to escape out of. I really think that he doesn't even feel like he's wearing one! They're also very sturdy and offer a lot of support in the chest area. Another plus is that Mocha also doesn't have a matting problem with this harness. There's been on a thread on here about Buddy Belts and EVERYONE gives it rave reviews (and for good reason!) |
I use puppias for all 3 of my dog's I love them! |

You may not want to buy this product online. You should try it on your dog to see how it fits.:thumbdown |
I LOVE LOVE LOVE our puppia harnesses. Adie is an escape artist and it is the only harness she can't get out of. Plus it is cute. I bought mine from happydog@happydogplace.com The are also sellers on Amazon and are terrific sellers. They caught an ordering mistake I made and emailed me to double check it. They ship really fast too. As far as the size...My shih tzu weighs anywhere from 11 to 13 pounds depending on her appetite. She wears the medium and it fits her well. The neck is just a bit snug going over her head but she doesn't mind. It isn't any different than some of the tees I have put on her LOL. Good luck and let me say that the turquoise colored ones are really bright and pretty. That is what Skeeter has. |
Brittany, I have something in that design but it is not the puppia name. I like that it doesn't pull on their necks/trachea but I am not thrilled about it going over their little heads and neither is Hot Rod. Actually putting on is not bad but taking off seems to be the hard part. :) |
Thanks for all the advice :) You all helped me out a ton!!! I think I'm just going to purchase one online (making sure able to return in case of sizing) Sounds to me like the Medium would fit him well so I think I'll go with a baby blue Medium and if I like it enough -- get him the Camo one too :) Quote:

You don't like the Buddy Belts?? Is it bc of the "step in" harness? |

I have a harness like this one but it is not made by Puppia. Mine is mesh though and red:D. I really like one I have. I feel like Teddy may be more comfortable with this style harness cause it doesnt cut into him or anything I am very pleased with my harness that is much like the Puppia. |
