Feeding my Yorkie Hi everyone! If anyone can help me out with this question that would be great! how much should i be feeding yorkie if he is 4 lbs and 1 year old? Thank you :] |
Hi and Welcome to YT!!! It all depends on what you're feeding. Read the instructions on the can or bag. It will give recommendations as to the amount to feed per size dog, taking into consideration the nuritional content in the food itself. Each brand may be slightly different. Start there, and then monitor your dog's behavior. If he still seems hungry after a meal, you may have to increase the amount slightly. If he acts like he has no energy, he may need more food. If he acts normal, that's fine. If he gains too much weight, decrease the amount fed. Hope this helps. |
Thank you so much !! I forgot the food brings instructions according to size and age! |

Most cartons/ bags over feed so be careful. Going by the food guide on Tias food she should have 1 1/2 cartons of food a day! She has 1/2 a day. She eats butchers choice meat with a little biscuit twice a day , she is 14 mths old and weighs 5lb.I think they need at least 2 meals a day in their tiny tummies.:p |
I let my boys eat as much as they want to. I leave their bowl on the ground and I fill it in the morning and night, but they kinda just munch on it all day. My boys are so skinny that my 16 month old is still on puppy food (yes, my vet knows - she ok'd it). I'm not sure if it's because they're so active or what, but we don't have any weight issues, so I let them eat when they want and however much they want. The instructions on the package are a great guideline though! Joey is about 5 lbs, and Tank is about 4 lbs. I would guess they eat about 2 cups of dry food per day. I'm not sure of the brand name, but it's an all natural puppy food. good luck! |
