Very Nervous.... Let me start for the last month or so we have been using the CC Day to Day Shampoo... Roxie has had dry skin but her hair has been doing well. Then last week I had switched their food to Royal Canin. I am nervous, I think that she an allergy to one of them. Yesterday we went and bought her Pet Heads Lifes an Itch to help her poor dry skin, but she is still itchy! I dont know if its her food or the other shampoo, but she has basically scratched all the hair around her neck right off! And she is going to get sores.... I am taking her to the vet ASAP, but not sure if its an allergy caused by the new food or the shampoo- like I said we (Jeremy and I) both have noticed her skin being itchier with the change of shampoo, but not sure! Keep my poor scratchy girl in your thoughts, I will keep you all posted! |

Unfortunately Royal Canin does use corn and some dogs are allergic to it. Mine did fine on the Roayal Canin products but they are on Canidae now. Canidae does have a grain-free dog food. That would be the first thing I turn to if she seemed to get worse after switching to the RC. Hope the vet can offer more help as well. It sound very uncomfortable for your poor girl. |

Sorry to hear about Roxie MJ. If you want a really good quality shampoo, I use Yorkie Splash. It's made specifically for Yorkshire Terriers by a Yorkie breeder who makes it by hand, it is made from all natural ingredients and has a great PH balance. It's not expensive. I use it on Sophie and it makes her hair feel and smell great. PM me if you want more info. As far as Royal Canin...I feed Sophie Eukanuba small breed puppy kibble. Eukanuba also carries a Yorkshire Terrier breed specific adult food that's made for their particular coat. Sophie has had no problems with the shampoo or food we use. Uppdate! We went to the vet and I am very worried. The vet thinks that she is also having an allergic reaction- we are going to give her the Benadryl every 8 hours for the next week or so to see how she does. We are keeping her food the same and going to use the new itch shampoo still. We did booster her distemper/parvo vaccine. We havent seen no fleas and her ears look good. The worst part was that she does have LP- we have never heard that before, we are going to start her on glucose to help and I guess we will see. Does anyone know anything about this? I have heard horror stories, and I am so sad. |
I'm sorry for you little one's trouble. :( LP is diagnosed in stages 1-4 or 5 I believe. We had a Yorkie once with stage 1 or 2. The vet told us she could have surgery or it may be that she would live her whole life without it troubling her. She was fine. It stands for Luxating Patella (SP?) It means the leg joints come out or pop out of their sockets when moved to the side. A stage one is minor and as the stages progress (if they do) it becomes necessary to have surgery. Some yorkies stay in the early stage, some don't. I am surely not an expert so I would make an appointment with your vet to discuss what stage Roxie may be in. It's a problem Yorkies are prone to. Be careful to not let her fall or jump too much if at all possible. Many yorkies live a full life after having been diagnosed with LP. Hang in there MJ and let us know what your vet recommends. Sorry to hear about Roxie. I would start giving her Cosequin (Regular): Cosequin: Dog Healthy Joint Product Combines Glucosamine and Chondroitin for her LP. I would also switch the shampoo to an oatmeal based shampoo either w/aloe or baking soda. Royal Canin has corn gluten meal which some dogs are highly allergic to, so I would switch foods to something w/limited ingredients &/or grain free. We feed Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Venison & they're doing very well on it as many others that have food allergies. Please do a search on YT about cosequin & royal canin...you'll find lots of info.:) |

E), * Certified Fair Trade by IMO Believe me it works on dogs very well...especially with dry sensitive skin and it keeps their hair conditioned and soft too. Most of these dog cleansing products are just regular chemicals packaged for selling to the masses and still irritate their skin. |
