Help..Not sure what my yorkie got into in my backyard... It's dark outside, and I'm not sure what my 10 month old yorkie got into out back. He came inside happy as can be with a wet and slimy face. It looked foamy too. I'm not sure what to do... |

2 of my girls nipped a frog/toad and that's what happened. I rinsed their mouths out quickly after and they recovered with no effects. Just watch him closely but he should be okay. If he learned from my girls, he won't mess nip them again. My girls will still chase them occassionally for fun when they see one hop but that's about it. They won't let their mouths go near them though. But if we see one on the sidewalk while we're going on a walk, they'll stop, give it a stare, then keep on walking. |

We've been having the same issue. They think the frogs are fun until they come in foaming. It only happens once per dog!!! They learn pretty quick. Mine will still try and bump them with their noses to watch them jump but they are very careful! All of mine have recovered with no effects!! |
Thanks everybody for responding with such helpful information. I've been watching him closely.... And I washed his mouth, nose, face and everything. And brushed his teeth..That really freaked me out! |
That happened to my first yorkie; I took the sink hose and flushed thoroughly and he was fine. Good for you to have the idea:thumbup: about brushing teeth - that would not even have occurred to me. |
Most likely - he did find a toad - they have a bitter taste and most dogs will drop them right away but still get the slime and foamy stuff - you did the right thing. When that happened to Chanel - I freaked too seeing her drool etc and called the ER vet to find out if any toads in Houston are poisoneous - and they said no. It depends on where you live. The bufo toad is highly toxic and found in places like Florida - (I totally researched toads/frogs when this happened) so if you do call your vet - ask them if any dogs have become ill from toads/frogs in your area - they'll know. |
