growling all night!!! HELP! Hi Everyone... I have been MIA for a long time... but I am back with a new problem and was hoping I'd get some feedback. Lola-my 3 year old yorkie has always growled at night... but now that we've moved back to our small one br guesthouse she has been doing it through the night- pretty much keeping us up/waking us up every hour or so. She growls at sounds heard outside, I believe it is her "protective mode". She does sleep on the bed with us, should I change that? I have tried putting her in the hamper (she actually enjoys this!) but it only kept her quiet the first few days then she would growl from inside the hamper. I don't think it's an alpha dog issue, I believe she knows who her alphas are, but this growling and occasional loud barking is driving me and my bf crazy!!!! It's getting so that I am seriously considering vocal chord removal. I've tried the spray bottle thing, and will try the coins in the can asap. Please somebody help!!!!:( |
Maybe try a sound machine or run a fan at night to mask any noises that she might be hearing and growling at. |
I run a fan at night and it seems to work. I don't know if this will work, but keep spraying water at your dog's face, but don't say a word. If you say something, that's better than nothing to your dog. I know when I have Sydney in her crate, I only let her out if she's not barking, I don't speak, and I walk away. She's learned to settled down quickly or else I won't let her out. Perhaps your dog is bored at night and hyper sensitive to sounds outside. My brother actually was told by a trainer to mix a little vinegar in the water and spray it in her mouth. His dog still barks, but she at least smells like a pickle now lol. What doesn't work for someone may work for someone else, though. I know my Sydney sleeps with me so if I told you to stop doing this, I would be telling myself the same thing. For being only 14 weeks, she can hold off going outside until morning. She's been doing this since day one when I brought her home three weeks ago. Let us know how it goes. |
Have you tried giving a long run before bed time so she is more tired than restless, also the fan idea sounds good |
