breed restrictions I never thought I'd have to worry about this - not with 7 and 14 lb dogs... but hubby and I are going to probably be moving to an apartment soon, so we were going around touring different places. We got to one pretty late for them to show us so they had asked if we could come back tomorrow and gave us their brochure. We get home to review everything we had seen and that last apartment complex had under breed restrictions - No German Shepherds, Akitas, Chows, Terriers, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, Dobermans. So, since I have two yorkshire TERRIERS, I can't move in? That's insane. They're yorkies! Chip can be a little snippy sometimes, but he's 7 lbs!!! I'm just really shocked that they won't take any terriers. None of the other places we went to have that... just the usual restrictions. |
Technically, Yorkies are considered a "Toy" breed and are NOT in the terrier group, despite their name. So I'd look into that. This is the Terrier group: http://www.akc.org/breeds/terrier_group.cfm |
Hmmm... that is something to consider. Of course, I knew they were considered a toy dog, but I never thought about the terrier part. |
I'd be shocked if they didn't allow Yorkies. Maybe they DO mean all terriers since they are known as barkers but who knows! |
Yeah, I would see if that would work. I can see the bigger breeds, but a toy breed seems a little harsh. JMO |
If I liked the place, I would probably just say I have Yorkies. And leave it at that. But that chart on Terriers does not show Yorkies. Good point here. |

Good point!!!! |
I really don't think Yorkies are a problem. My guess is that they forgot a word before "terriers" or it had something to do with the next on the list (American Staffordshire). I'd talk with management. |
I would talk with them...all the other breeds listed are very large dogs. I would be shocked if say they wouldnt let a Mini Schnauzer in. |
