Biting Yorkie I have a little 4 year old Yorkie that is spoiled rotten. Up until recently, we have had no problems with her. However, she has started attacking our 15 year old Keeshound. I can hardly get her off when she attacks and she has even drawn blood. We took her to the vets to see if the yorkie had anything wrong with her and nothing showed up. We put her on some medication to calm her a bit but lately she has started biting us. The other day my husband got his face too close to hers and she bit his nose. My grandson got too close to her face the other day and she attacked him. Although, when the grandkids come over she is so excited to see them that she jumps and licks them to pieces. She also when on a leash is trying to attack other dogs. I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with their Yorkie like this. I just don't understand it because it came on so sudden. After she bites we put her in a timeout. I'm at a loss on what to do but I can't have my dog biting my grandkids. Any suggestions. (This Yorkie has been our life for the past four years, goes everywhere with us. She is a purse dog and is never left alone). Please Help, Nancie |
Here is a thread you might want to read. I would also google Fear Aggression towards other dogs to see if this appears to be what is going on with your little one. I do not think it is because they are spoiled rotten but something is going on. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...t-control.html |
oh my goodness, that's no good! I don't know what I would do in your position. i've heard of dogs biting right off, but never kinda just picking it up one day. I'm sure it's quite frustrating for you. I would maybe try a kennel. If my dogs do something they really shouldn't do, they go in the kennel for an hour or 2. It's not violent, and it lets them know that I don't want to be around them if they will participate in that behavior. I hope all goes well and you get the attacking figured out! |
Biting Yorkie Thanks for your reply. I do put Deka in her kennel right after her attack and I think she knows that she did something wrong because she comes out with her head down. I think I'm going to call a dog psychologist and make an appointment. Before this all happened Deka has always been the sweetest little dog. I never worried about her biting anyone. Now I'm afraid for any of the grandkids to even pet her. I was especially worried when she bit my husband on the nose because she loves my husband and that's who she sleeps by everynight (up on his pillow). I just wonder if we spoiled her too much. I really have to get a handle on it so will try every thing I can. Thanks, Nancie |
biting yorkie I am so glad I joined this forum when my little male yorkie came into my life last year. Webster is 14 months old and i have never had an issue with him and my grandsons. this past weekend, my 5 year old and 1 year old grandsons stayed over my house. my older grandson is actually visiting for two weeks. yesterday, Webster nipped my l year old grandson in the face when the baby climbed on the couch, where i was sitting. i was so shocked, that i immediately put ice on the baby's face and thankfully there were no skin breaking. the baby was so upset, he cried for 5 minutes. Webster constantly growls and barks at the baby and older grandson but has not nipped until now. I was actually thinking of boarding him for a few weeks until the kids leave, but came on to the forum for some advise. My older grandson is afraid of dogs (prior bad experience but not with my dogs) and now he is terrified. I also have two golden retrievers but there is no problem with them. I have decided to crate him immediately when he growls or shows any other inappropriate behavior. I forgot to mention that Webster had a bone with the baby climbed up but still I feel this behavior is intolerable. Any other advise would be appreciated. |

If your grandkids visit often, maybe a trainer can help. But-for the safety reasons, I would keep him crated. I got bit in the face by a chihuahua when I was young and still have the scar. He had a treat he was hoarding and I sat on the same sofa and the dog attacked me. I wasnt a young child either...i was in my teens. Some dogs just dont like kids and have jealousy issues. Good luck. |
