Male vs. Female Difference? I am looking to buy a yorkie, and I noticed that the males sell for much less than females. Why is this? Is there a big difference in the personality or behavior of the males? Price is a concern of mine, but I also want a friendly energetic dog as well. Thanks!!! Sydney |
I adopt my babies out for the same regardless of gender. If you check my webpage you can link to a document that is simply an opinion of the difference. My personal preference is to the boys. www.simplyyorkies.com Kim |
Male or Female Sorry I can't tell by your name if your a man or a woman, but I have both a male and a female. My male Artie is a year and 3 months old, he is very attached to me to the point of separation anxiety. He is very smart, sweet, affectionate and eager to please me. My female is only 8 weeks old but I can already see a huge difference! She is also smart, sweet and affectionate but only when it suits her mood she is almost aloof? She's independent and does what she want's to when ever she want's to. She is at times stubborn and unsociable. Where as Artie is more friendly and outgoing with other dogs and strangers. Abigail pretty much keeps to herself and could care less about anyone or anything else. She is closer to my husband than me but I don't care because I have mine. Hope that helps if your trying decide which one to get? :) |
I don't know if I am correct on this maybe somebody can tell me. I think the females are higher because you can breed them. My female was twice as much as my male from the same breeder. I love them both and they are worth every penny. |

I've had both male & female dogs and find males A LOT more clingy. All of my female dogs have been super independant. |
I love my little boy!!!! He's a Mamma's boy and that's what I want |
My male is very clingy and does not like to let me out of his sight. I had a female Lab who was very independent, but I think that just goes with the breed. I am partial to male dogs, especially males of the toy breeds. |
I have a little boy also, and I agree with all the moms of boys above. Mason is very attached to me and hates when I leave his sight. He will sit in front of the bathroom until I come out! He's super affectionate ALL THE TIME :heart to He is also very very friendly. Everywhere we go, he wants to give kisses to everyone! |
the price so the reason why the females are more expensive is because they can have puppies. They are the moms. Because they are females and can have puppies they are WAY more expensive than the males! :aimeeyork |
My males make just as fine pets as my females. I really don't understand the reason the girls are requested more but they are. I think people reflect the price this way, supply and demand. I don't price mine different. I charge what I need to for a loving pet, not the sex of the pup. |
I have had boys and girls, and I like the boys. They have always trained to do tricks easier, and they are more eager to please. Like everyone else has said they are more clingy. If you like a dog that will follow you around the house when you clean, and then when you finally sit down he jumps up in your lap and goes to sleep, get a Toby. :p On the other hand, I have had a hard time finding cute boy clothes, so a girl is better in that since. I dunno about all of you, but do people always call your male a female? They do me and it is so aggravating. :thumbdown They are both good choices though, it's all according to preference! :) |
I have had 2 males and 2 female yorkies and a female pom. IMO they were all sweet except my pom is not very affectionate and very aloof. I loved all of my yorkies but each had a disticnt personality. The reason I switched to females was my males both marked, both were unneutered as I was young, 18 when I got my first yorkie and did not neuter because I didn't know that that would help and I didn't want to put them under anesthetic. If i had to pick i would say my boys were a tad more clingy and a one person dog. I really think it is personal preference as I have never met a yorkie I couldn't love! |
I always thought it was because the girl have the babies...so if you own the girl you take dibs on babies...I dont know?? am i close? |
I have had 3 females and Dennis is my first male. They all have been loving and clingy but Dennis is now wanting to go out every couple of hours just to drag me from tree to tree and bush to bush barely tinkling! He is also starting to lift his leg in the house. My girls went out in the morning and once at night, and piddled once and sometimes pooped, but that was it. With Dennis I am always guessing, he never seems to run out of either. So for me the difference is purely behavioral. Dennis wants to find a mate and would spend all his time smelling one out and leaving his sent behind if I let him. It is getting real cold here in the NY area and I think if I did not pick him up and take him inside, he would freeze to death and not even notice. He is a beautiful little male and I have a breeder that is interested but I am beginning to think maybe I should neuter. I will not charge her to Stud, nor will I take a pup. I just wanted to help her out, but I am fearing that if I breed him this behavior will get worse and I worry that maybe I have already waited to long. He is 8 ½ months now. I prefer females and never had any of them show the least bit of interest in sex, and Dennis is showing signs as large as a tree trunk (twice this morning), just what more and more is on his little mind. I am beginning to think no matter what the choice, one of us is going to be very unhappy. Sue |
