6 month old yorkie with Kidney Disease Hi everyone, I need some advise. My six month old baby yorkie girl was diagnosed with Kidney Disease. Her BUN is at 30 and her creatinine is normal which is a very good sign right now. The internal medicine specialist I've been taking her to want to do a biopisie/spay. Does anyone know how dangerous this is??? Or has anyone done it on there little yorkie. My normal vet says I should just let her be because it's so risky with her size she's 2.2 pounds. Any advise???? |
I am so sorry to hear about your puppy's illness. I can't advise you on such an important issue but I can tell you that we had our Sophie spayed at 5 months when she was 3.25 lbs and she came through beautifully. I think I would get a third opinion. My thoughts and prayers go with you.:hands: Jackie & Sophie :aimeeyork :Pawprint::Pawprint::Pawprint: |

I am sorry to hear about your baby. I had little Dixie who had congenital kidney disease that was diagnosed at 6 months and a month after I got her. Her Bun was off the charts and so was her creatine. Her kidney's never developed. They never did any surgery or suggested any. I would get her to a kidney specialist, a nephrologist, and see what they say. Her tests aren't real high so maybe there are other treatmets that could be tried before surgery. I hope you can get some answers. Please keep us posted. |
Kidney disease was diagnosed with one BUN reading slightly above normal? Did they redue the test? Could she have been dehydrated that day? |
They have done her blood work a few time and her BUN was at around the 30 mark. They have done an ultrasound and the internal medicine specialist said she has abnormal kidneys. |

My Brody was diagnosed with the same thing at 6 months. We too have a kidney specialist that did an ultrasound and by that they can tell how under developed the kidneys actually are. The bun and creatine also help to tell if they are in kidney failure yet or not. My little boy is almost one and has been on a special diet and is monitored very closely. Every so often he runs a temp and needs to go into the hospital for fluids and medications to get him somewhat on tract again. I would ask what good will the biopsie do? Would it change the way they would treat your little one or not. PM me if you need to talk. |
My Baby is Very Sick Also Hi, I just received news from my vet that my baby 3 month old yorkie boy is very sick. I brought him in early this morning because yesterday he was lethargic, vomiting and had diarrhea. The vet did some tests and she called me back and said the same as your dog that both kidney levels were off the charts and that she suspected congenital kidney disease. The specialist is on his way to do the ultrasound but I am very scared because she basically made it sound like a death sentence. This is my first yorkie, I have had him for 5 weeks and I am so in love with him already. He is with me 24-7 and I am so devastated. |
