Stairs for beds..anyone have this? After reading all the stories about the little ones on here breaking bones, I am scared it could happen to my Bailey, He loves getting up on the bed, but he did jump off one time before I could catch him, thankfully he landed okay. Now I don't want to let him up at all, and he cries like crazy to get up:( Does anyone have stairs by their bed for their yorkie? |
Yup, we have stairs for Marcel at our bed, and at our sofa - he uses them all the time. I got them at Walgreens for about $10. :) |
I have 3 sets of stairs for Laci and she uses them all the time... its actually kind of funny, she could jump off the couch's and beds but will always use the stairs...I got them at petco maybe 20 bucks a piece.. I have them on both couches and one bed.. |
Yep, I have them all over the house. I have the $15 ones from Walmart by the couch, but my bed is so high that I spent a little more and got taller ones for that spot. I have a thread going right now about needing to replace the stairs with ramps. It's in the general forum titled 'Please help me find a ramp for Alex.' I'm just mentioning this because I wish now I had gone with ramps originally - they are just so much easier on the joints if there's an injury, arthritis, etc. But, I have had my pet stairs for years and they definitely serve their purpose. Anyway, I highly recommend you put something next to your bed as well as any other furniture he will be on. |
Yes, I have stairs by the couch and bed. I got them at petco. My bed is a little high, so I put a vanity bench with stairs leading up to it by the foot of the bed. He figured it out in an instant. |
Yep, stairs at the couch, bed, and a set in front of the window for when they want to be watchdogs. Definitely worth getting some! |
I also have steps by my bed. Our sofa is very low so we don't need them there. All 3 of mine use the steps to get off and on the bed. |

How did you guys get them to use the stairs? Bailey was so scared of them and would not use them... he's stubborn and would just jump up and down on his own!!! |

I have the scamp ramps by my bed and my dtrs and stairs they can get up on to the window seat. My 3 can't jump up on anything so if there isn't a way up they can't get up. |
My kids wouldn't use the stairs, which would not be high enough for my bed; and I found them to be pretty cheap. My little girl has to sleep with me or I don't get any sleep (if you know what I mean) so she sleeps in a kennel on my bed. She is perfectly happy with that and I don't have to worry about rolling over on her or her falling or jumping off. |

My Misty the Yorkie has used stairs since she was small, she even taught Cassie, my 3 month Maltese, how to use the stairs. The two girls use them to get up on my bed and off. When I had Max he would use them to get up on the bed, but if I didn't catch him, he would jump right off the bed. My Mazie who is 13 yr Cocker has started using the stairs when she gets up to go to bed. I'm sure that her body is starting to slow down and hurt. I'm scared for the day when she's no longer with me. But stairs are great!! |
I use ramps. My DH made them long ago and they have been wonderful. I have one a the bed and one for them to get up in the window seat. I have a small step stool by my chaise. Not only is it great for them to not risk broken bones, but it is alsoa great help to those tender joints. So many small dogs wind up with back, hip and knee problems from so much jolting over and over through the years. So, even if people think their babies don't need something like this because they can easily jump up and down -- it is still much better for them to use a ramp or steps! Glad to hear you are going to get something to help. |
I have stairs for my bed and they use them all the time. In fact they don't ever try jumping up on my bed anymore, they just use the stairs and come and go as they please. This is how I taught mine... I put them on the last step and coaxed them on the bed. Since it was a short distance it didn't take much. Then I would place them on one step further down and coax them so more. I kept doing this until they were on the bottom and would go up all the stairs. They all learned it within a few tries. Teaching them to go down the stairs takes more patience. I usually have to place their paws on the next step until they figure it out. But again it only takes a few tries. |
Stairs I have three sets of stairs. Small ones for the couch and recliner and taller ones for bed my bed. They can get off and on chairs without the stairs but when they were new puppies they needed help. I stacked up empty boxes of various sizes years ago before stairs became so popular. The stairs to my bed are a test. I don't put the puppies up there. When they can navigate the stairs on their own they come on up because my bed is so high. Any orthopedic doctor would tell you it is not just how far you fall, but how you land! No injuries in more than 10 years but it could happen when they jump off the couch, too. Dora is not satisfied until she is as high as she can get - the back of the couch, the top of the recliner, etc. I think there might be some cat in her cause that girl can climb! |
I got a super cute set off of ebay that are carpeted and have little paw print inlays. They are so cute! They even match my carpet. LOVE THEM! |
I have the Deluxe Doggy Steps from Target.com next to my bed. She uses them to get up, but she still keeps jumping off. I'm worried about her hurting herself, especially because she's already got a slight luxating patella problem... Still, they're a very good idea and it's definitely made my life easier because if she does jump off the bed I don't have to stay awake ready to lift her back up when she's ready to come back, she can jump climb the stairs. |

We have two, a 4-step and 3-step. (Window and bed). The 3-step goes from the floor to our wicker trunk, with cushion, to the bed. We would put him on our bed and call him so he would get use to using his stairs. It only took about 30 minutes or so for him to get the hang of it. We would watch him when we left the room to make sure he used them and not jumped down. |
Darlene we have stairs for the bed and the sofa. Sky now sleeps with me and the rest of the gang in the bed and goes up and down to potty. Just make sure you measure and the steps are high enough to the bed and I have the six steps because they are less steep. I had a four step one for the other dogs but Sky couldn't do those so I traded those in and got him the six step one and now he runs up and down all day long. Now I sleep better because he doesn't cry all night. :D |

Have 3 sets. Love them!! Use them for beds and couches. It is especially helpful for the older ones. Gives you peace of mind knowing that they can get up and down by themselves . |
