He is cute.. and he does look like a yorkie to me.. I dont see anything different about him at all.. :) |
4 Attachment(s) I found my first post on here :) Interesting, where we're at now! Sketchy breeder who dissapeared off the face of the earth. His ears still do not stand, no matter how many months I spent trimming them! only up for seconds! and he is a skinny (big) 12 pounds now !! We're not even sure he's a purebred Yorkie given the circumstances of the breeder. His hair is turning silver and I hope his hair really turns... I wish it would grow, but he has that cottony matty type hair- it doesn't work. I just wanted to say, thanks to everyone for being so welcoming! Here's Derby now!! 9 months old. He is such a ham/total character!! love him. |
1 Attachment(s) This pic is my new favorite. Look at him sayin Cheese!! |

I was so sad when I had to cut it, and I really wish he didn't destroy his hair everytime it got any kind of length to it. Maybe he'll grow out of that once he's not such a puppy anymore? I would for him to have silky hair!!! Maybe that's why his face hair never gets that puffy look... |

The one thing I've learned since coming here and looking at everyone's pics is that Yorkies are a lot like people: no two are alike and they're all different, while still being a Yorkie. There's the size thing, then the coat type thing, then the ear thing ... Historically speaking, Yorkies are a "bred down" breed, meaning their genetic heritage comes from larger terriers. So there will *always* be pups that are genetically destined to be larger than the "standard", which is an artificial guide that hopefully applies to your pup - if that's what you want. The breed characteristics are charming, and many people are perfectly happy to have all that charm in a slightly larger package :) . I like floppy ears: I think they're endearing, especially with those alert eyes. One thing you may consider though: perhaps Derby is a Silky. They're larger, but in many ways look like Yorkies. One thing I've noticed is the nose: my dogs have very tiny noses in relation to their faces and snout, whereas Silkies seem to have a more prominent nose, more like you'd expect to see in a dog. That may be an erroneous observation ... nose size may just be another difference between individuals. In any event, Derby is certainly a charmer. I love his smile, and the Devil lives in his eyes ... which is a good thing in a terrier :D |
