Do you tip your groomer? I took Li in to get groomed for the first time. This lady came recommended by a friend. She works out of her home. When I picked Lilah up, I asked her what I owed her (she did a GREAT job, by the way - exactly what I wanted). She told me so I wrote her a check for that amount. Just now it dawned on me - should I have tipped??? She used to work out of the vet clinic that we go to and when I took Leo there for grooming, I tipped her. But this is out of her house now and she's on her own, so is a tip necessary?? I'm starting to feel really bad that I didn't tip her and I should have. And now when I take Lilah in there next time, will she mangle her as a payback?? |
I tip 20% so my boys cost $40 each and usually I pay them $100 for both, thats a $10 tip for each dog. However, I only get my dogs professionally groomed maybe twice a year. All spring & summer I take the clippers and scissors and do it myself. Its not great but it saves me money! :) |
I tipped Apple's groomer, because she works out of a little boutique, owned by someone else, and probably has to pay rent for the space...I tipped her a little more, since I really liked her, and she seemed to have had Apple's best interest in mind (it was her first grooming)...I'd still probably tip 15%, even if she worked alone...Bottom line is, T I P, means to insure prompt service, so if you are happy w/the service, then tip, and if you're not, don't tip, and don't go back...;) |

You know I'm getting sick of all this tipping. Everytime someone comes in my house to fix something I have to tip. I am sorry call me cheap but I don't ever tip the salon owner. They are making good money it's the poor workers that depend on the tips. JMO |
I tip based on how well they do and how much they had to do. This last time, I was very late with grooming and Rocky (puppy hair) had mats. I figured that was worth a little more. They did not charge me extra, but I knew they had to take more time and care with him. Your post got me wondering if they split the tips. They have a lady that brushes, washes, and combs them out, including getting the mats out, and blows dry. Then they have the groomer who actually comes in and cuts their hair, styles, puts the bow in and makes them smell good. I should probably find out because it was the shampoo gal who spent all of the extra time and effort with Rocky. His cut was a cinch because I want it to grow. He basically got a pedi, foot trim, and sanitary. Glad you posted this -- made me think. (Ouch :) ) |
Good question, I hope more people comment because I had the same question. I used to go to Petsmart(I know all the horror stories) so I found a new lady in a small shop and she did a way better job than I had imagined. When she gave me my credit card reciept to sign there was a tip line and I debated if I should tip or not. She did a good job and she was way faster than any groomer I've ever been to so I ended up tipping. |

so i thought the $25 was good enough and no need for tip; since she only spent 15 to 20 minutes doing that; $25 for 20 min that's good enough i say |
I've only been to a groomer once and it was years ago, I didn't tip. When I go get my hair done I sometimes give her a 5-10$ tip. She is the owner, and only one in the salon. I just don't think I have to tip each time I am already paying for the service. I see tipping waitresses as they make much less and reply on tips. I work on a dinning cruise and we split the tips with EVERYONE who was working that night  I don't like it but what can ya do. |

We use a mobile groomer and I tip her $10. It has been very hard finding a decent groomer (the last groomer dangled Lacey over the grooming table using the grooming leash). I want to keep her happy. |
I tip my groomer $10.. |
As a professional manicurist for 15 years, and working both in shops and out of my home, I set my price and didn't expect anymore. They paid the amount that I asked and if they wanted to tip that was just a little extra. But I didn't and would never treat my clients any different if they did or didn't tip me. We are trained professionals and I feel we should behave that way, in any profession. I do tip my hairdresser and my groomer, but because that is my choice. I never tip more than $5. |
