Sadie the cricket hunter Okay this is the cutest story...the other day i was looking at Sadie and she had something in her mouth, i saw a black leggy on the floor and she had the body of a cricket in her mouth and i took it out and wanted to say leave it, but also praise her for the awesome catch...so i praised her a little after saying leave it and taking it away. tonight she was just sitting on the couch being really good and she started to bark that bark they do when they hear or see something that they want to warn you about or that they have just locked into. i kept wondering what she was hearing because Mike wasn't home yet...so i looked in the direction she was and there was a huge cricket on the floor hopping. i told her "go get it" and she finally jumped down from the couch and went after it. she then looked at me because it went behind the blankets so i lifted them up and it hopping into the hallway and i picked her up and we rushed into the office where the thing went and she ran to it and got it stopped by her mouth. i took it away right then and flushed it, but i was so proud of my little cricket hunting doggie!! in all the proudness i mistook her poopy dance for a sniffing for crickets dance and she totally just pooped on the floor but i caught her mid squat and took her outside, needless to say catching a yorkie mid poop always leaves something nice on the floor a few inches from where you catch them and scoop them up... EWWWWW. but anyways at least i caught her in the act again and she's learning. thought you'd like my stories of her cricket hunting adventures. Love to all, |
My dog does the same thing but he hunts them out in the yard. He just buries his face in the grass and tracks them out there for hours. I have also caught him mid poo and had to rush him outside. Once I got him in the air it came loose and landed on my big toe  *gross*. I was disgusted but had to laugh at the same time. I guess Sadie and Winston have the same bug that they prefer to hunt :D |
Cricket hunting is big at my house too. Every night the two of them on the patio hunt for hours!! Funny to watch :) |
You get crickets in the house!!!OMG I would die. I hate bugs. Good doggie! |
Ohhh yes, cricket hunting. One of Baxters favorite passtimes. He will be there for hours. And when he get one he will run away from me, as he knows I am going to take it away lol |

This is not a good story for the bugs, but sometimes, when the june bugs are rampant, here in the south, I'll take Apple out on the front porch to catch a june bug, then let her bring it in the house to play with for a while, then, when she's through playing w/it, she gobbles it up...Then she looks up at me like she's saying, "o.k., mom, let's get another one"...She'd eat as many as I'd let her have, so I limit it to two...I've heard they're a good source of protein, so it's not such a bad thing...lol... |
What bugs are ok to let them eat and which ones will hurt them? Quote:

Sadie is one smart lil girl! You will learn the difference from the poopie dance and other dances! LOL! What a cute story, thanks for sharing! |
this is gross...but the people upstairs are remodeling and i think its shaking the bugs loose or something...stella has caught two cockroaches in the past three days (and by catch i mean she starts batting at them with her paws until they're knocked out and then mommy flushes them...i would NEVER let her put one of those in her mouth!). she has even developed a special bark to let me know when she sees one...so we've caught two more that way. pretty gross, but i'd rather know where they are and catch them than randomly find them when they jump out at me! she doesn't quite understand that she's a ratter, but she sure is good at bug hunting! |

Can't find an incect toxin list but here is a poison one |
Don't June Bugs have pinchers :questione ? Sophie was trying to play with one but I stepped on it and took it away because I didn't want her to get pinched. Sophie plays with bugs on the patio, too. She doesn't usually eat them but likes to play catch with them by throwing them up in the air! I suppose she swallows them when I'm not looking though:dribble:! :doghop::doghop:Jackie & Sophie :aimeeyork:doghop::doghop: |

Thanks :D. All these years I've been very uneasy around them. It probably dates back to when I was young and my mom told me they had pinchers so I wouldn't pick them up ;). :doghop::doghop:Jackie & Sophie :aimeeyork:doghop::doghop: |

like birds pooping on your lip if you stick it out...that doesn't happen, a bird would be more likely to poop on your head than your lip exactly. lol  |
