Should I be worried? I'm kind of concerned about my dog being socialized with other dogs, but in the opposite way most dogs act. He's not agressive at all and hardly ever barks or growls at anything. I took him to a dog park by my house, I was so excited when I found out it was there. The whole time at the park he wanted me to pick him up. He would wander away by himself and then run and scratch my leg waiting to be picked up. There were plenty of dogs there and he would walk up to them with his tail tucked and huntched over sniff them, then run to me really fast. He's around other dogs all the time so I don't know whats wrong with him. He goes to doggy daycare and at daycare he's usually by himself in a corner waiting for a human to come by. We live with a lab and he plays with him all the time. I posted before because I thought it was his confidence so I took him to agility classes and he does pretty good when he's in the mood and has high energy. Should I be concerned or is it just part of his personality? The thing that worries me is his tucked tail and very cautious demeanor. He loves people though, on walks he will literally throw his body down in front of a person expecting a belly rub and nothing I can say will make him stop (it's actually kind of funny, but I'm trying to make him stop doing that), but if we see a dog he acts interested but soon as I say leave it one time he keeps walking. Is he just dog shy, or is he just the complete opposite from the Alpha dog? I'm kind of worried. By the way he's almost 11 mos, fixed, and I've had him 8 mos. Please give advice or encouragement, Thanks!! |
I never had that with my dogs, but one of my dogs' puppies acted that way. Any dog that came near, big or small, he would immediately tuck his tail and roll on his back and show his belly. In fact, my sister in law has 2 yorkie puppies that just turned a year old in August. Hank is a big guy and greets everyone, Jr. tucks his tail and shows his belly and seems to just crawl towards the other dogs! Chopper, the first puppy, is now 3 years old and he no longer does that. So maybe they have to grow out of it. |
I hope so, I've never seen a normal dog do this before. |
He sounds wonderful to me. So what if he is not too interested in other dogs, as long as he is happy. It is like people, you don't have to "like" everyone. Some people like to keep to themselves, and they may be very happy that way. He may only open up to to people and dogs he trusts and good for him for being so wise. Sounds like he doesn't enjoy the daycare. But why should he have too? Dogs have personalities, and he may like quiet and calm and trusted. Dog daycares can be very chaotic and loud. He sounds so sweet and a very good dog. |
3 Attachment(s) I've thought of that as a possibility too, maybe he just prefers humans over dogs. He came out of his "puppy stage" really fast. He's almost a year and he likes to just sit on the back of the couch and look out the window. If anybody startles him he lets out little fussy old man noises, lol. He does love to play too though. I guess thats ok if he's just a little cautious. I was just worried he had low self esteem issues or something the way he tucks his little tail. I still can't tell if he likes daycare or not. He gets really excited when we get there and the staff love him. Here are some pics of him there from the webcam. Do you see him in the upper left hand corner? I don't know if he's just relaxing and observing or if he's miserable around the other dogs. |
3 Attachment(s) Look at the difference when the staff members come into the room. He's all smiles :D He's the one right underneath her arm, loving all over her. |
