Please help! (kinda gross) I am at my wits end! I have had Molly for a little over 2 months. She is about 20 months. The lady that gave her to be only had her for about 6 months and she told me that before that she was in a puppy mill that got shut down and she got her from a bunch that were rescued from the puppy mill. Anyways, she has been doing well with not pooping in the house recently, which was our big problem before. I put her in the laundry room w/ a baby gate up. I don't mind her pooping/peeing in there when we are gone (I put a puppy pad down which she rarely uses), but she has been pooping, then stepping all in it and smearing it everywhere! I literally have to scrape it off the floor! I tried crating her when we first got her, and she still pooped and peed in the create! The crate is small enough for her, she just didn't care and would use the bathroom anyways, and I would have to give her a bath everyday when I got home. I don't know what else to do. She does so well when we are at home. Anyone ever had this crazy problem? Please help! |
Could you try this perhaps... every time you put her on it and she goes potty give her the best , greatest super treat ever! As the puppy whisperer calls it the million dollar treat!! https://www.ontvdirect.com/pottypatc...e=otw1w3-ppa-c |
I agree I agree. Try giving your baby the best treat ever and alot of praise when she does potty on the pad. I was having the same problem with my little one. The only place now that she has accidents is in the bathroom. It usually poops, once in awhile pee's. It is kind of funny if you think about it. But try the huge rewards when your baby goes on the pad. Make a real big thing about it. Hope this helps.:) Teri & Grady:aimeeyork |
I too have a puppy mill rescue and Ivy used to go in her crate too. I also put her in my bathroom as I thought she would be better in their (tile floor) OMG the mess  Ivy is about 5 or 6 years old and never house broke. I then took her out side to go pee and made everyone say the same word (pee, pee) When she would go (I also always had her on a leash) I told her she was a GOOD GIRL and gave her a treat. I took her out as often as if she were a puppy. She now is house broke :D:D:D I think the treat was the thing that works she loves chicken. Just give it time it will work as long as you stay with it. Good luck |

Wanted to bump this for you. Your poor Molly :( - I'm so glad she is out of that mill. I've heard this is very common for Mill dogs bc they haven't been socialized by Mom and bc they're left in their own filth. I don't have any great advice here, but I'm hoping some of the rescue folks will see this and they may have some thoughts. |
This won't help with the potty training issue but may help with the mess. If you feed a GOOD quality dry dog food, there should be no mess to smear. Mine are on Canidae and they leave nice little tootsie roll type poops that are easy to pick up and do not smear or leave a mess. Look at what you are feeding, and see if you could make a change that would help while you continue to work on the real issue of house training. |

Ivy would step in it and smear it all over too, even in her crate :eek:like you I would come home and the 1st thing I would have to do was give her a bath. Now she never does that. :) I don't know how long you are gone for when you go out, but I come home at lunch to take them out. That too will make a big difference. If you can't get home maybe you could find someone to do it for you? |
Like many of the above posters I suggest the treat after pottying, and lots of praise too. This is what worked for my Bailey, whenever he uses his pee pad now he goes to me for his treat :) Good luck with Molly, puppy mills are so horrible :( |
