AKC Registration questions???? 3 Attachment(s) I haven't registered Rily yet because I'm not sure what color I should mark. Should I wait longer to see what color he is next year? I'll attach a current picture. Could you all tell me what color he is now?....I'm confused on the difference of gold/tan. To me, he is more blonde than gold/tan and more silver than blue! Also, I bought Rily from a breeder in TN who gave me the impression that he was born there, but, his application states that he came from a breeder in OH. Is this strange? Oh, well, after three months I don't really care...I just know I love him to death!!!!:D He's a keeper no matter where he came from or what he looks like! |
The breeder didn't write the color on the AKC papers? There is a place for the color code and it is the breeders responsibility to fill that in. |
He is adorable. I would say he will be blue and gold. |

I'm not a yorkie breeder, but I've been breeding and showing poodles for 15 years. I do know you mark the color when the pups are sold. My yorkie breeder marked the color code on my papers. I can't imagine waiting a year for the adult color to come in before I register them. Isn't there a fee after 6 months for AKC? I've never waited more than a few months, so I dont know. MMMMMMMmmmmmmm..... |

It says I have until 5/4/2010, then $35 for a late fee. |
Is Riley neutered? If your not planning on breeding him, I don't think it matters. I'm not sure of the Yorkie registration rules. I did go to AKC to find out, but it was very vague on color. My girls are black and tan right now, but the breeder put silver (or blue?) on the papers, and they are both turning. I'm sure he knew what color they would mature at. If you have to 5/10 to register him and you feel more comfortable waiting till your sure what color he would be, then I would wait. I wasn't sure how much time we have before there is a late fee. I've never waited very long to send in the papers. |

What color are his parents? I usually mark my puppies according to what color their mama is. |

I don't think you need to wait because he has already turned blue (from black as a puppy). His light color could be called tan or gold. Hard to tell exactly from pictures but he looks really light which I would go with tan. But on the ends of his chin and leg, the color looks more gold -- so I think you have the leeway to make the call. I have looked and there are no official rules about when and how to decide what colors to put in the boxes. Since all puppies are black and gold, that would be the only choice if we were just supposed to put what they were at birth. That is how I marked my first ones and realized that probably was not right. Now I realize that even at an early age, you can usually part the hair and look at the roots themselves and the skin color as well. Then you can know whether the hair will turn blue. If you see a hint of silvery blue at the roots, then you know your baby will turn. In your case, yours already has turned -- so the blue is no question. The only undecided part is whether yours will wind up being more tan or more gold. That is a subjective call at this point, and it could wind up staying a mixture. Just pick one. |
