changes at 7 months?
 

My little Sophie is 7 months old now, she weighs 3 lbs 2oz. I am wondering if she will get any bigger/heavier than she is now. Also, will her coat change? Do yorkies have a "puppy" coat and then an "adult" coat? When can I expect the change to happen, if it does? And will she change colors? Also, when can I expect her first heat and how will I recognize it when it happens? I'd like to wait about two years before we think about her having puppies. I hate to risk her health!

How big was she when you got her? Joey did have a growth spurt after 6 months, but that's not the usual thing, She will probably stay under 3 1/2 pounds, is she healthy? Their coats change for 3 years, but they don't completely lose their puppy coat like some breeds, it just seems to fall out over time and is replaced with adult hair. The puppy hair does tend to mat more, and after the age of 1 year you won't find this to be a problem if Sophie has a silly coat. I don't know much about the female and heat, someone else can give you information about that, but I do know that you should not breed a tiny yorkie. Good breeders won't breed a dog under 4 pounds, and many say the limit is 5. You put too much of a health risk on a tiny dog, and her small bones can't handle the extra weight of pregnancy. I recommend you get her spayed as soon as possible, do not allow her to be ever unsupervised outside or around male dogs, it only takes a second, and males have been known to be very sneaky. A pregnancy for a dog this size usually has to be aborted, and even that comes with dangers. Please for her sake get her spayed, ASAP, and enjoy her as a pampered pet.

I know, I have been thinking she is just so tiny and sooo special to me that I cannot bear the thot of putting her thru pregnancy! Especially if she stays this little. Her little legs are soooo fragile feeling! Her little body is very sturdy tho and she is the healthiest happiest little girl on the planet. Sweetest personality! She does NOT bark unless she wants up on our bed - she can't jump that hi altho she tries once in awhile, LOL! If she does not end up weighing over five pounds I will NOT breed her. She is our first little dog, we've always had Irish Setters, so I am not quite up to date on her breed. But I'm learning, thanks to this website! I cannot believe how attached she is to me. Seriously. I am the FIRST choice at all times, and if I'm in the room she will not snuggle with anyone else, she will kindof lean away and look at me. Even if I try to tell her it's ok, she will wiggle down and get back to me as soon as she can. What an angel. I wish I would have found her sooner! And I pray I will keep her for 20 years as I cannot imagine life without her, and I've only had her since April!

Lol, she sounds so adorable, I swear I wished I had known more about this breed, when I was suffering from empty nest syndrome, it's just like having a little child again. We have several members who have extra tiny yorkies, who are just perfect examples of the breed including wonderful temperaments. I just wish they could perfect that cloning thing! :D We need to see more pictures of your little darling!

I wish I could add another picture or two of her, but everytime I go in to attach a file it tells me we're too big! She is just positively adorable. You're right about that empty nest thing. We are empty nesters too. And my hubby has sworn all these 38 years that we would NEVER have a house dog (our setters were always in the garage/yard/kennel unless I would sneak them in when he wasn't home) and certainly NEVER one to share our bed. LOL. It was HIM that put her in our bed the first time! He has gone over the moon for her and her sweet little personality. She is NOT one of those yapping annoying yipping things he used to say naughty things about ....yes, she has stolen our hearts completely. And we couldn't be more surprized or happier than if we had won the lottery

I really love some of the larger breeds as well, and they can be really rewarding if you can be active with them, but at may age, I want something that I can sort of keep up with. Well, at least I'm strong enough to pick him up and bath him! :D

About those pictures, do you know how to resize them? For the albums a picture about 6x8 works nicely, and for the threads you can use an even larger picture, but the largest side should be around 10 inches. Some people join Photobucket and they will store and resize your pictures, and there are many other online sites that will just resize them for you without hurting your original picture. My Yorkie weighed a bit under three lbs at seven months and now at almost 4 years she is 4 lbs. You never know though, I have another female, and a boy who never gained weight after six months. So it depends a lot on their genetics, and family history.

Coat and color changes can keep happening up to three years or more, from my experience. Enjoy it!!! I love watching my babies colors and coats change, and still have one girl under two that is changing monthly :)

My yorkie started changing his color when he was 10 months old. It does take a couple of years. Anywhy that was what I notice with my boy. Your little girl probably won't reach five pounds. I wouldn't breed her if she doesn't reach 5lbs. I won't breed my girls unless they weigh 5lbs and up.:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa

You can resize pictures in Windows Explorer. Just open the folder, right click on the picture you want, then select resize picture. The small option works well most of the time. It doesn't change the original, just makes a smaller copy.:)
