Weight/Growth of Puppy Our puppy will be six months old next week. We were told when we got him that his estimated weight is 5-6 pounds. He was very small at birth, etc. The vet also stated the same thing. Our puppy now has doubled his weight. He went from weighing 2.3 pounds in May to 4.0 pounds on Wednesday. He usually rarely eats half of his food. We try to not over induldge with the treats and cut them in half to limit their size for him. Is this normal that he has doubled his weight at this age? I won't see our vet for another month or two to find out more about his growth and weight. He is far from looking heavy. He is very scrawny and long. He wears xxs clothing and the clothes are big on him. :animal-pa |
This link really helps me. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...rt-thread.html |
They do the most growing before that 6 month birthday with another growth spurt usually by the 8 month. I'd say he's right in line. |
Toby's weight has increased similarly. just under 2lb at 9weeks. He too is 4lb at 6 months. I am expecting him to hit 5lb. |
Jackson weighed in at 6 pounds at 12 weeks old, and by 16 weeks, he was 8.6lbs! Now at 10 months old, he's my big 12.5 pound boy (he was weighed at the vet last week!) |
That's about right. The general guideline is to double the weight at 12 weeks for adult weight. |
