Why is it biewers are bigger? I may just be running into the bigger ones but itseems like there are an awful lot of bigger biewers..I thought the standard was 7 lbs same as yorkies..or are they supposed to be bigger? Just curious |
No they are not supposed to be larger than 7 pounds...as with yorkies...there are biewers which are out of standard. |
Are you seeing them in person or in pictures? Just like with Yorkies, there are Biewers out of standard in weight and conformation. |
Due to the popularity you'll see a lot of breeders rushing to breed the Biewer, in order to make a quick buck, since there is not a lot of information out there, it's easy for consumers to be misled. I've seen some ads for Biewers that looked like a Shih Zhu, so you have to be especially careful when looking for breeders. However, because of their abundance of fluffy hair on some Biewers, the pictures can be deceiving, and they can look much bigger than their actual size. |
The reason you will have some big Biewers is because the Yorkies in Europe are larger dogs and you always have to look in the past generations to see the size of the dogs. The USA tends to go for the small yorkies and that is what you are used to but if you look at Yorkies overseas you will see more sturdy dogs and I am sure more are at the 7lbs (standard) then here. Many of the original Biewers were in the 9lb plus range. But you will also see a litter have a big pup and a small pup. Also you have a lot of inexperienced breeders who look no further than the two dogs they put together instead of looking at least 3 generations back. |
