to board or not to board, that is the question My Maddie is 19 months. We will be out of town for the weekend and can't take her with us. We live in a small town. My groomer also boards. However, she only works a half day on saturday and off on sunday. Does not live at her shop. So, Maddie will be there crated. Groomer comes in and lets dogs into backyard of shop when she is not there. My other option is to leave her at my house. Neighbor's daughter can come over several times over the weekend to feed her and let her in back yard to potty and run. She is use to her crate and likes it. Goes there to nap and to sleep at night. It worries me that she would be in the house by herself at night, in her crate, but then again she would be crated with no human at the boarding facility either. What do you think???? |
I would be nervous with either situation. Can the groomer take her home with her if you pay her a little extra? That is such a tough decision, hope you can work it out. |
Who do you trust more? I would think she would feel better at home in her own bed and house and all that..then at the groomers...And you can call the daughter and make sure everything is ok..to go check on her when you want.. |
I personally wouldn't do either unless it was an emergency. However, I would choose the at home option first. She will be alone either way... Somebody coming in a few times a day to let her out sounds fine, but I think I'd look for someone to come and sleep with her. |

What about dog sitters? Does your vet know of any in your area? I went on Craig's List and posted an ad looking for a pet sitter and got a lot of responses. I interviewed a few people and found the most wonderful pet sitters that way. Good luck... it's so tough to leave them when you go away! |
I understand how you feel. I would go the at home route if you could get someone to be with her overnight. She would be more comfortable in her own environment. |
Tough decision; however I would choose leaving her at home where she is comfortable. Google dog-sitting companies in your area, there's usually someone! |
[QUOTE=irishawk;2772681]What about dog sitters? Does your vet know of any in your area? QUOTE] My vet was able to suggest a pet sitter, and I feel so much safer with her there then at the kennel. But between the two options, I would choose the home as well. Nothing wrong with kennels, it just didn't work for us. I'm sure she would be safe either way. Have a safe trip! |
