My Yorkie's pregnancy My female yorkie is pregnant. I also own the sire. They are still mating even though she is pregnant, most times she allows this and they do still tie. Is this normal behavior during pregnancy? I'm worried that this may be a false pregnancy if she is allowing him to mount her. Any ideas anyone? |
How far along is she? If she is still in heat then it's normal.. They spend the first week coming in..second week in..and third week going out..BUT thats not to say that she cant breed during the first week or the last..there are always exceptions.. |
you should not be letting them mate just any time they want to. They should have been separated as soon as she was bred a couple of times or three times until she is out of heat. Why are they still allowed to do this? Are you just learning to breed? this is just not the way it is done. Please separate them right now for the well being of both the dogs and the future babies. |
No, it's not normal for them to continue breeding. How do you know that your girl is pregnant? The well being of your girl is being compromised, possible infection to her and the fetus. With the possibility spontaneous abortion. A stud usually is no longer interested in a female, once she's out of Season..... I'd suggest taking her to a vet and having her checked out.. |
breeding during pregnancy Hello, Actually no, I have been making them stop breeding during Lily's pregnancy, she is stopping him now as well. I believe Lily is approx. 49 days pregnant although has no belly yet. I have taken her to the vet, who says she is completely healthy. The vet only asked me when I thought her due date was. I wasn't sure at first if she did get pregnant as our sire was only 6 1/2 mos. old at the time, however her teats and vagina are swollen and have been since the end of her heat cycle, so I guess I am assuming she is pregnant. She was very lethargic for the first month but is now gaining some of her energy back. Her appetite is good. I am a new breeder with Yorkies. I used to breed Boxers and was a member of the CKC years ago. I do have experience but havn't had these types of symptoms with any of my Boxers. Any advice from anyone with Lily's symptoms would be welcomed. She appears "thicker" around the rib cage and of course heavier but no "pregnant looking belly". Max, my sire is very small, (3lbs.) could this be why she isn't showing yet? |

' If your pups are CKC registered, you will not be able to register them, since the sire must be 7 months at the time of breeding. Best of luck to your girl. |
CKC reg. Thanks for your reply. No my yorkies are not registered. However, I didn't realize the sire had to be 7 months...interesting. Honestly, at 6 1/2 mos. I really didn't think they would be able to pull it off, which I guess is another reason I am still unsure if she is pregnant. Thanks for the info. |
