my babies hair won't grow Hi all. My Yorkie boy will be nine week old on Wednesday...he's thriving all around, he's doing great with housetraining and he's finally starting to sleep through the night. the problem is his hair is still really short. he looks like a 2 week old rot puppy. now i know he's a purebread yorkie because i've seen the mom and the dad (got him from a friend) and they are both Yorkies. Has anyone had a puppy whose hair didn't grow? any idea how long before his hair starts to grow? Thanks... Kristy and Mr Sammy Sam :-) |

Keep in mind most breeders do not let their puppies go to new homes before they are 12 weeks old. So yours is still younger than most you will see out and about. His hair will grow. IT seems like all of a sudden, their hair does start to grow and then they go through this unruly/bad hair stage for a month or two. Finally, it will grow enough to lay down naturally and you will start getting the more adult Yorkie look. Just enjoy each day! This is a good time to find a really soft brush, like a baby brush and get your boy used to grooming. He will like the feel of the very soft brush, and with short hair, there will be no tangles to cope with. After a few months the puppy hair likes to mat, and if they are not used to grooming, it can be a real chore to get them to sit still for a good brushing daily. |
Dont worry Your baby is still really young he has so much time also babies mature differently at different pace my phantom hair is shorter than his sister so dont worry he will be ok just keeping loving him |
Hi there, Welcome to YT :D Congradulations on your new puppy, Mr. Sammy. He is adorable. He is very young, and it will take time for his hair to grow out. I agree that it is important to start not out on the brushing. Using a soft brush , on him. The grooming ought to be gentle and "fun" for Sammy. So he becomes use to the feel of being groomed, and not to fear brushing, or become aggressive when it is time to be groomed. Talk to him while brushing him as well. Be patient, and take time with him. It's so important to start out early . Being a yorkie , it will become a daily experience for him to be groomed . The sooner the better , he becomes accustomed and familair with daily grooming. |

confused my 5 week old puppy's hair wont grow. when will she grow her long hair im ready to put bows in her hair. |

I know lots of yorkies have totally different coats, but even if their hair is short at 9 weeks, i still have never seen a 9 week old pure yorkie with totally smooth hair. I got farley at 7 weeks and his hair isnt what i would call long but definatly fluffy and soft, not smooth and close to his body. |

5 weeks old? Is your puppy still with its mother? I wouldn't be too worried if a bow doesn't fit in its hair, it's still a baby. You will have plenty of years to put bows in his/her hair... |
Michelle, is your dog still at the breeder's, 5 weeks is very young for a pup to be taken from it's mother. There is still loads of socializing and teaching, never mind still being fed from the mother? |
Is your boy a chocolate Yorkie? A larger picture would be helpful if you have one. |
