Always A Belly Band? First of all I must say that all my babies are raised as part of the family not in kennels. I purchased a boy who is 14 months of age. He has to wear a belly band because he totally marks every where and is not house broke or pee pee pad broke as are all my other babies. My question is, at this age and being a potential STUD will he always have to wear the belly band? My Stud now, Rebel is 3 and never had to where a belly band. Any advice I can get will be greatly appreciated. Also if this is long term, can it be 24-7? I have been using baby powder on him between "changes" and it seems to be working. |
What I believe is that when you have 2 unaltered males they will mark so looks like you will have to deal with belly bands |
yup, it's either that or deal with the marking. |
Ok, So will it be ok for "Bob" to wear a belly band ALL the time? Will my Rebel start "marking" and have to wear one after 2.5 years of not wearing one? It is ok for me, I just want to know if it is ok for them? Bob started "chaffing" and I started using baby powder on him because I didn't know what elso to do so I am kind of looking for advice if this is not appropriate. |

Right now I am using baby powder which seems to be doing fine. I have A&D ointment on hand as well as neosporine just in case. As I said this is all very new to me, my other boy came to me as baby so there has really been no competion but actually there seems to be no competion between Rebel and Bob just I guess different upbringing. (?) Rebel has not begun to mark. |
Also when I put Bob in a place by himself to "air out" he gets really upset. |

Are you using just a belly band or are you putting a pad inside it to help adsorb the pee? I think you might also need to change the band and pas more often to help. Good chance the other male will start marking as well if you are not catching all of the urine. |
Right now I am using a sanitary napkin and vet wrap ( i have belly bands ordered), as I said I have never had to deal with this before. He was a kennel boy before I got him and he attached himself to me immediately so, I may have made some mistakes in letting him stay with me, WITH being wrapped so... when I try to let him"air out" he cries and throws "tantrum" which affects everyone else. So far my Rebel can care less (he is very easy going) however from what I gather her will start "marking also?? |

When I got my little boy (6 1/2 years ago) he was 6 months old and not trained at all. I tried to train him but he never caught on, so he is always in belly bands. As long as you keep him clean and dry he should be okay. I do crate him while I am at work and he does not mark while in the crate, but without the belly bands I would have every corner and leg of every piece of furniture belonging to him. I use belly bands from http://doggiefancypants.com/ with a feminine pad with wings and it works perfectly.:aimeeyork |
