New Puppy Need Help!!! Hi every one, so we had Lestat our first Yorkie for almost a year now, we brought home today a companion for him a 10 week old female yorkie which we have named Akasha. I just want to know what we should expect tonight, when we brought home Lestat he was 4 months. Lestat has never given me a ny problems at night. But then again there was an age difference. My husband and i do crate at night, I have begun crate training but I wondered if it was ok if i put her in a crate at night. maybe with cloths that have my scent and a little music? Or should I keep her close to me in the bedroom? she is to small to sleep in the bed with us. Also Lestat can't seem to stop sniffing her since we brought her home, will he calm down eventually? |
I brought home a 12 week old puppy about a week ago and he was not used to sleeping in a crate, but the first night he slept all night with just a couple minutes of whining when I first put him in. He has to be able to see you at all times though so his crate is beside our bed. Congratulations on your new baby!! I love both of their names. They are so unique! |
Having a 10 weeks old puppy is like having a baby. You can expect to take her out for potty several times during the night, possibly some crying and she might even want to play when you take her out for potty. The general rule of thumb for a puppy is 2 hours of hold potty for each month they are old so once every 3 or 4 hours she NEEDS to be taken out or possibly even more often. Do not expect to sleep through the night  When you take her out, put her down and as soon as she goes pick her up and back into the house and back to her crate. Your best bet is to stay quiet and not get her excited during night time potty runs. Good luck and you will survive just like all of those before you :p |
I would keep her near you in her crate so you can run her out if not pad training her. I always count on being up with a new puppy for a few weeks an sometimes they surprise you and sleep all night or only get up once. Just hang in there!! |
Your Lestat will stop sniffing her eventually. My Coco did that when I brought home Pebbles. He was just trying to figure out what the heck it was. They are best buds now. All 3 of mine are best buds. Someone told me a long time ago that if you put a ticking clock, like a battery kitchen kind, near the crate it will soothe them. They think it is their mama's heartbeat. Good luck and Congratulations on your new little girl!!! |
Ok well day one went as it could be expected, she had a couple accidents but nothing major, The night was more then perfect, i sectioned off her crate and put in a pee pad, we put her to bed at 9 pm the same as Lestat and covered her crate with a blanket just like lestat and she did not make a peep the whole night and she peed right on the pad. I'm so proud of her. Now today I'm a little worried, I unfortunately have to go into the office even though i will be working from home the rest of the week and probably for the next couple weeks. So again i sectioned off her crate i did some good crate training exercises with her this morning and yesterday so hopefully she won't mind being in there for a few hours today. I'm also leaving a radio on so she hears that and her crate is right next to Lestat's. I don't have a ticking clock in the house so I opted for the radio. I'll try to make out here during my lunch break if I can get away. :p |
Is sectioning off her crate ok for now? she is only 1 pound, i put i a seperator and on one side i placed the pee pad and the other side a blanket and her water and food, last night she walked over to the pee pad and did her business and slept in the other side. i figured this was ok since she is so small right now. i'm still taking her outside with my other yorkie in the hopes that she learns quickly to go outside. she is so small though i can't tell if she pees or not. |
Beautiful name I love that name.... Oh my back to what you were saying yes it just takes a little adjusting goodluck |
