Scoots across floor Hi, I have never seen a puppy do this before so I am hoping to find some answers. Colt has been scooting his behind on the floor. I took him to the vet 2 weeks ago and took a sample with me. He doesn't have worms. I have also been checking his stool daily to make sure. Still, no worms but he keeps scooting his rear end across the floor. He has no hair mats that would be an issue and he is properly clean in that area. Does anyone else have this problem and any suggestions as to why he would be doing this? Thanks!! |
He may need his anal glands expressed. Or has he had a recent haircut near his bum.. sometimes that bothers them if they've just had their bum shaved. |
I had a Golden Retriver that did this. It was because his anal sacks needed draining. |

If he doesn't have worms I would take him to a vet to get his anals expressed...more than likely thats what it is..If he has all his shots you can take him to a groomer to have them to that as well.. |
it's almost always from the anal sacs, they would need to be expressed by a vet or groomer, you can learn to do it yourself, and they can probably show you how to, but it's really gross and can squirt SMELLY brown puss at you, most dogs can express them themselves during elimination, but some get stuck and have to have them manually expressed, almost all scooting is due to this happening and them trying to express them on your carpets, so hurry quick to a vet or groomer and have them checked!!! :) |
Ginger went through this phase when she was a puppy. We had to have her anal glands expressed a few times but she seems to have grown out of it. :) |
