I make bows they are kind of like show bows in that they are stiff and double looped and I usually glitterize them or use cutesy printed bows with a little jewel or button in the middel. They are time consuming! I also prefer to use the really small aligator clips!:) |
Cool :D Amandag159, it would be great to have pics :) ! Bella_mia_hairy, What do you use when you make the stiff double looped ones? They are pretty expensive here, im always looking for a bow who doesnt cost much. |
hmm.... are not more people here who make bows themselfs? :D I love making new bows for my big boy,i really want to see some other ways to make them :) Please show us if you know some other way to make bows, or even double looped ones! That would be so awsome. |
That's such an easy way to make bows! I thought there was so much more to it since the petstore charges so much for them. Looks like you've given me a new way to save some money :D Thanks tons!!! |

Double Loop 2 Attachment(s) Hi everyone. I actually started making the double loop bows last weekend. I don't have a Yorkie yet, but I figured I would start making bows for when my future baby comes home. :) I found how to make them on this site: Alex's Yorkie Care Frequently Asked Questions. Page 3. I'm attaching pictures of some of the bows that I've made. They're bad, but they're my first attempts. :) |
I make my girls bows, those one on my avatar I made, but that has not stop me to buy some:eek::D;) just take practice and patient, keep the good work:aimeeyork |
I get all my bows from ladymom! I figured out the price for all the attachments (I like barrettes), ribbon, stiffner, jewels/buttons and honestly could not see the savings over spending a few dollars per bow. Unless you are making hundreds of them and buy wholesale, anyway. |

Bella_mia_hairy, thanks :D Im in Iceland so i dont know if i can find this spray here, but ill check some stores and look for it :) GAOMariposa, your bows are not bad at all! i think they are great! They are much better then mine! Im not good in english (i speak way different languege where i live) so i dont understand everything in that website, do you think you could take step-by-step pictures next time you are going to make a bow ? I would appreciate it so much, and propably more YT Members! Thank you all :) ! |

Pictures 3 Attachment(s) Hi everyone. Here are the pictures I promised. Sorry they're a little blurry...they were taken from my cell phone. And again, my bows are really bad... It's amazing that I can suture skin very well without wasting the suture, but me with a needle and thread..not a good combination. :D I'll try to do a step by step: Picture 1: cut a piece of ribbon 8 inches in length. Fold in half. I put the hemostat and the bobbie pin on both sides so I know where to put in the stitches. You put the top stitch about 1.5 inches from the folded part down. Picture 2: This one shows where I put the stitch on the bottom part of the bow. Again, my stitches are really bad. :) So you stitch 1.5 inches from the fold part of the bow down and then I sort of guess where to put the second stitch. I fold the bow to see how it will look with the bottom stitch. I'm guessing you should go down 2 inches or so. Picture 3: This one shows the bow with both loops already stitched in. |
Pictures continued 2 Attachment(s) Picture 4: You fold the top loop on top of itself down the middle to give you the top most loop. You do the same with the lower part. Picture 5: At this point you should have 2 loops. The hemostat is holding the two loops together. You can do 1 loop and stitch it so that it stays and then stitch the second loop to the first one. Or you can join them with a hemostat holding both loops and then stitch from there. I hope that's not as confusing as it's sounding to me. :D And voila, there's the bow. Then, the website says to slide them onto knitting needles and spray with bow stiffener. I don't have any of the stiffener...I'm in Mexico. I'm mostly using stuff I can find around my apartment until I go to the States and then use all the stuff my Mom and sisters have at home. :) After it's all stiff, you can add jewels, glitter, etc. in the center. I didn't add the flag back to this bow..I cut it off because my scissors are so bad that it just ruined the ribbon. If you see the 3rd picture you can see that I left pieces on the bottom so you can add the flag backs. I hope these directions aren't as confusing as they sound. You can just see the pictures and read the directions on the website. Those directions are a lot better than mine. Well, good luck and let me know if you need anymore help or have more questions. |
