thinks her toys are her babies Hi everyone I have a question...does anyone have a problem with their female yorkie carrying small stuffed toys around trying to hide them and getting agitated..I think Jada thinks they are her pups or something. She is 2 yrs old and had one litter of pups. I wonder if I should just hide these small toys from her. I hate for her to get upset. Anyone have any suggestions?: |
I would just let her be. She will most likely eventually quit doing this.. |

she doesn't growl or get aggressive. She just whines and keeps trying to find the perfect hiding place. She will let me take it away from her without a fight. I just hate thinking she is missing her pups or something. I guess i'm just overprotective lol . |
Peanut does that! Only with his bone..he will carry it around and dig in his blankets in his bed's and bury it..Sometimes it will walk around back and forth trying to find the perfect spot! |

Is it possible she is having a false pregnancy? I have a dachshund that had a couple of false pregnancies. She would gather several small plush toys and make a nest in my closet. She would not want to leave them for anything and would whine and cry if we took them. We would make her come out to go outside to potty and she could not rush back in fast enough -- just like a momma dog with her puppies. The first time around she actually had milk come in and I took her to the vet. He explained it was not unusual. If she had gotten engorged, he would give her a shot, but she seemed to work through it on her own. After that, she went through the guarding her toys routine but never got milk after the first time. It usually lasted around two weeks and then she would go back to normal. |
I hate to throw a monkey wrench into this baby thing here but Buddy is a male and he does the samething. His baby, the rubber clown, get's carried around all the time, at times with him whinning looking where he want's to put it. Please don't tell me he thinks he's female! LOL |

When I got Izzie the breeder gave us a tye dye teddy bear. Izzie would sleep with it and that was about all. Then she had a false pregnacy and it all changed. She started carrying that bear every where. She would curl up around it like she was nursing it and she wouldn't let the other dogs have it. That was about 2 yrs ago. She is spayed now but she still carries her bear everywhere. It is always with her and heaven forbid when it wears out because I cannot find another one like it. Sometimes at bedtime we can't find where she has put it and take her to bed without it but have to get up and find it because she sits on the side of the bed whining. |
