am i being cheap??? Hey everyone I need some help or ur advice. Ive been taking lola to the same groomer for a year and a half. I liked how they cut her. Well about 2 monthes ago I wanted to get her face and top knot trimmed and she butchered my baby and said give it a couple weeks and u will love me. Well lets just say i dont love it but its growing in. So Im going to try a diff groomer. Its sebastians first time being groomed. all I want done is his bum ha his feet rounded and his top knot and ears trimmed they said it would be 38 bucks. Lola needs her feet rounded and her bum trimmed also and they said that would be 38 bucks is that too much?? or am i being cheap here lol??? |

At times you can get lucky and find a groomer that will give you discount rates if you bring in the furbutt in every 2 weeks. Grooming fees can be astronomical....you might consider learning how to do it yourself. There is a grooming tape that you can purchase on YTCA.org, not inexpensive, but in the long run it may save you money. Most people say they can't do it, but they key is to be kind to yourself and know that if you make mistakes, you learn by them and the coat will grow back. I know that even with training, my dogs at times look like poster children for Rescue. |

With my first dog, a toy poodle, we paid $20.00 per groom for him. Granted, this was in a small town and it was just one woman who had opened her own business. I believe later she went up on her rates a bit, but for those clients who had been with her from the beginning, she left their price the same. Now that I live in a larger city, the rate seems to be about $35-$50 depending on what you have done. -C |
Here the rates around 20-30 for everything. Even though its cheap, the costs add up so I have do as much as I can myself. Like Mardelin said, you should try it yourself. You will make mistakes, but its all a part of the learning process and it WILL grow back! :D |

I think it's fairly easy to learn the ears, trimming the pads, and sanitary grooming, I still can't do nail clipping, but if you can learn to do a little on your own, it will save the cost of having to go so often. I just check Joey weekly before his bath, and trim a little here and there. I have a small eyebrow trimmer that I use for the ears and just follow the groomer's pattern. Conair - Ladies 2-in-1 Trimmer, LT3RCS - 1 ea. I use baby scissors around his bum; no shaving there, I just keep the hair clipped short. |
i pay 15/20 depending on what i want done.. but i agree with the others, it depends on location and the groomer. Alot of them charge a basic rate no matter what you have done. |
I trim Missy's ears, the pads of her feet, clip her nails, and do sanitary grooming. I think that price is really high for what you need done, but I do understand that they must have a "flat rate". You really can learn to do the grooming yourself. It's easy. This is my first pet that I've groomed, and I don't mind it one bit. |
Wow you guys are so lucky. Here in NYC, it's between $65-$95. That doesn't include tips. |
My groomer does a great job but she has a flat rate of $38.00 which leads me to this question. She is a 1 woman shop. Should I be tipping her? I haven't been but a couple of posts made me start to question this. |
