Check out this cool collar tag.. I just came across this item and thought it was pretty cool. Does anyone have this or something like it? It would go good as added protection even if you have your pet microchipped.:D Pet Product Advisor |
I came across those tags a couple of weeks ago. Ingenious idea...even though my dogs are microchipped, they still have tags simply because it's the easiest and fastest method for someone to reach me. |
Great Post! :thumbup:I am moving soon and I have been looking for some new tags for Bella. I was also wondering has anyone ever used these before? It seems like a really good idea. |
Yeah...pretty good idea....but what if all that info got into the wrong hands? My Pixie is microchipped...she also wears a small disc on her collar with just my mobile number on it...no other info....if she was lost and then found, hopefully they would ring me and we could arrange a pickup point. |
If your dog was lost and someone honest found it, they would look for a tag with a phone #. I don't think an expensive item would bring it home any quicker. Just a little tag with a couple of phone numbers is perfect. |
I bought my dogs the little metal canister kind? that you can fit a small slip of paper in with this kind of info on. Within two weeks both dogs had lost the canister part, and all they had was the lid hanging from their necks. I never found out where the canister went, if it got eaten, and how they got it off. It twisted on like a jar. I would be worried that the USB would get chewed, or lost, or eaten. |

You know after I posted this thread I thought about that. Maybe too much info? But can't you just put on the tag what you want and skip some of the more detailed stuff? |
I've seen that in a few places (or something similar.) Usually I don't give them much of a second glance because they normally seem to be about $30, but I saw a bunch of them in a couple of my local Tuesday Morning for $10 and paused to give it some thought. I think its a neat idea... but it is a more sensitive piece of machinery. I worried about how delicate it would be (how much force would be needed to break the casing and such). I don't think I'll really be running out to purchase one, partly because well - getting the info off it requires that other person to have a computer. If I were to loose Winston in the dog park, the odds are they someone might have a cell phone but not a computer on em. If I were to loose him, the person who finds him might not be computer savy (or every have a computer - you never know! lol) I also wonder how easy it might be for the info to get corrupted or have the info on the drive get lost. I can easily check all the time if he's old fashioned info tags are still in good shape, the drive would be tricker. Winston has his ID tag with his microchip ID# on it as well as their website so they can look him up, and I also have another tag with his name, town & my cell number on it. I almost bought one, I think the idea is super cool! At the same time I'd want to keep at least one of those tags on there if he wore it just in case, and then I started to question why spend the money if I am going to still use that and a traditional ID tag. Now if they were to come up with one that acted as a locator... I would SO be in on that one! Edited to add: If anyone's interested I believe this is the one Tuesday Morning is stocking |
Good idea, but I never use a collar on Prince, only a harness, which is only used when he is out of the house with me. |
Good idea...in theory. However some of the thoughts stated above about too much info, whether the finder would know what to do with the tag, tag detaching from the collar & being lost or worse yet...eaten  were all things that ran through my mind as well. The same can be said about microchipping that not every finder knows to look for a microchip on a found pet or if they do, will they take the time to have them scanned. My biggest worry is one that I'm sure others share...if someone finds a cute lil' Yorkie...will they really try to find the owner or will they just keep the cutie for themselves.:( In that instance...then maybe I would consider this type of tag because, it would be at least my attempt at 1. bringing my pet home so, they'd see how much she is loved...or if the finder decides to keep my pet, 2. that my pet's new finder (:() would at least have all the info needed to keep my babies new transition one with some familiarities...especially, the food she's used to eating. In the meantime...my girls are all microchipped & wear a name tag with my cell #. |
You can actually make one yourself. All they are, are flash drives. You can buy one for 10.00 and do the same thing yourself. It is a good thing to have. However, if someone steals your dog, the last they are going to do is return it whether you have this tag on or not. And some people might not even think it comes apart to put into a computer. |
