who baby is Declawed? Hello all i was just wondering from the yt family how many people got their furbabies Declawed and what is the pros and cons. and also when is it to late to declaw a baby? i look for threads on this and couldn't find anything. |
I have never heard of anyone declawing a dog. I didn't know that it could even be done. I know that the dew claws are removed when they are a couple of days old, that is all I have ever heard of. |
I have never heard of declawing a yorkie... I am interested in hearing about this myself. |
well maybe i am saying it wrong idk ha ha because lately i've seen ads with people selling yorkies and they say de clawed so i was wondering why are people wanting puppies with their nails gone |
I really hope they just mean the dew claws were removed. |
whats the difference? what is dew clawed |
Dew claws are a claw on the back of the paw, between the "wrist" and the "elbow". A lot of dogs are born without them. I guess it's better for a dog not to have them since they don't serve a purpose (I think I read somewhere that some larger dogs do use them? Not sure) and they can get caught on things. Thor has his, and it's not a big deal, they just need clipping like his other ones. I have not heard of de-clawing a dog, but I am very against de-clawing cats, and since dogs don't scratch furniture like cats do, it seems even more pointless. |
i never heard of such a thing; please don't do it, its animal cruelty; do some research about it and you will see; usually they do that to cats due to scratching; however dogs dont scratch. needless to say that declawing is like cutting 1/2 of the human finger ; not just the nail. |
I'm sure they mean they remove the dewclaw, and this is still perfectly acceptable, and considered best to prevent later accidents. Some dogs inadvertently rip them off at a later age, and this is quite painful. Some members have had the dewclaws removed at the time of neutering, because an older puppy would have to go under antithesis to do this. Most breeders do it around 4-5 days, and it's not a painful procedure if done at this time, by a knowledgeable person. |
Whose baby is declawed. Yes, it has to be the dew claw. I thought you were talking about a cat. |
Peanut was dew-clawed when I got him...The breeder did it when he was about 3 days old :/ but sad to say she didnt do it right and his left one is grew back! I thought about getting it cut off...but I dont want to put him under for that..It doesnt get caught on anything so its no big deal. and the groomer will trim it when she does his other nails!! |
