Do Your Yorkies... ...play with their food?? Chloe seems to have so much fun playing with her food before eating it. She will grab a piece of kibble, carry it across the room and then proceed to toss it up in the air just so she can chase it down to pounce on it with a ferocious growl. I know it is probably just instinct kicking in, but she is absolutely hilarious!!! I'll hear her crunching on her food and then suddenly hear this rabid pitter-patter of her feet as she jumps and twirls around after her food. I really need to get this on video, but she's so hard to catch at it! As soon as she hears me moving, she quits and comes over to play with me instead. -C |
Aww thats so cute! peanut use to do that when he was a pup...but now he will just take one little kibble out of his bowl and walk away to eat it lol |
Barley loves to play like this with his food. He really loves to lay about three feet away from his bowl after he's eaten his fill and if anyone walks by he runs over and stands by his bowl like you're going to do something to his bowl. probably because I put their bowls up 20 minutes after putting them down. I really have to watch my toy poodle's weight and since she's a food stealer there's no free feeding in my house. |

I've had yorkies in the past that have done that but bailey is on wet food... It's the cutest thing to watch, isn't it?! :) |
My two aunt's Malteses' used to do it too ;) Quote:

At least Chloe's not just crazy!! Our toy poodle never did anything like this. Although he would carry a handful (6-8 pieces) of kibble into the living room from the kitchen and eat it there. I don't think he liked being alone to eat! :) At least she always picks up after herself...it might be less cute if she left pieces of food strung out across the floor! And she almost always lays down to eat, even if it is just one piece of food at a time! -C |
Missy is fed homecooked, but she does do the "toss and pounce" game with my pugs kibble sometimes. :D |
Molly does this too!! It's hilarious!! I've read that they bring it to their pack to eat, so maybe that's why the carry it around. I feed her in the bathroom, and she likes for me to throw the kibble along the smooth floor, then when it hits the carpet it pops up. It's the 1, 2, 3 game at our house. I'll start counting, and she'll get down ready to pouce! I throw it on 3. I swear that she can count now! HA! |
Rockie has taken his food out of his bowl and across the room to eat it but l've never seen him do that. That sounds so cute. I'd love to see that.:p |

Okay, I finally caught her at it!! And then she went on for like 15 minutes...I think she realized she was being filmed and started hamming it up!! Enjoy! -C |
Misty, my Yorkie grabs a mouthful of her food and runs under the coffee table. Then she tries to hide it. Then starts all over again. When she finally does eat she goes to each spot and eats a little then goes to the next. I do find kibbles throught out the living at times. |
Beckett does the exact same thing. It's so cute. I watched the video and it was like watching my pup. I wonder where they get this from. |
That is so cute.. |
Piper also plays with her food. When she was a tiny puppy she would fling the kibble up and over her head then chase it down. She would play like that for quite a while before she ate it. Now that she is a big 1 year old she'll take the piece of kibble run across the room and eat it very grown up like. I have never seen her just eat kibble right from the bowl. |
Looks just like my Zoie!!! LOL How cute.:p |
I am hysterical, that is the cutest thing. Jemma doesn't do that. She carries 3 or 4 pieces in her mouth, goes in another room, eats it and repeats it until she's done |
TOO cute :) Mine did this as puppies too |
Funny! Thanks so much for the video. What a riot she is. Calleigh will just take one kibble at a time over to the dining room and go back and forth until she's had her fill. Your pup is having a grand old time. So, so adorable. |

Lucas is more of a "gobble it down before someone takes it" type eater. Lol |

Every meal I mix a little Wellness soft food into the kidz kibble. Well sometimes Clarence wants just the soft food so he'll pick out each piece of kibble, lick off the soft food then take it about 2 feet away from his bowl & drop it on the floor...he does this until his bowl is empty & there is a pile of kibble on the floor. Then he goes over to Keegan bowl then Sophies bowl to forage for left overs. Shoot he's almost 13...maybe a little puppy Altzhimers? Or spoiled rotten...you decide.;) |
All the money you've probably spent on toys, and she gets this much enjoyment from a piece of kibble!! |

Isn't this the truth!? Not that she doesn't play with her other toys, but they just don't seem to hold her attention as long as her food does! I'm really glad you guys are enjoying the video. Sometimes I wonder if Chloe seems so cute just because she's mine! You know...parent syndrome and all. :D -C |
That is so cute! Samantha never played with her food, but at 6 years she still plays like this with her ball and other toys, nylabones, etc. I still always have to stop and watch her. No one will ever convince me that they don't have imaginations! Vivian |
Zeus takes his kibble out of his bowl and walks away to eat it too! I guess he isn't alone. The video is funny! It must take her forever to eat her food and then she probably needs a nap! |
