Ok, yesterday I took my babies to the clinic at MSU for routine care. There was a woman there who was beside herself with grief. She had taken her mini-dachshund for their regular walk the day before when she got home from work. Three doors down from them live 2 bull mastiffs and a mini-pinscher kept in their yard (?!) by an invisible fence. She tried valiantly to help her dog, was knocked down and injured herself trying to get them off her baby. Her dog ended up having it's trachea ripped out. She managed to get emergency care for it and then it was transferred to MSU for surgery. When I left there yesterday the dog was on a ventilator and it was uncertain whether the dog would survive, or what the quality of life would be. As I sat there thinking about her story, all I could think about was all the dogs that are "just wanting to say hi, or play" who "has never hurt another dog" And people wonder why we're protective of our furbabies:( Thanks for listening...this has been bothering me all night.

Poor baby.....I really have a hard time hearing stories like that. An invisible
fence just isn't enough :confused:

I always felt that way and this just confirmed it. We have neighbors 2 doors down who have one and swear by it to keep their FIVE dogs in line. I won't even consider walking mine down anywhere near them.

What a horrible story.
If a dog want's something an electric fence will not stop it.
I, personally would never go by a yard where I saw a dog loose knowing
it was probably an electric fence surrounding it.
That poor woman and dog. Very sad story.

i have never heard on an invisible fence but this is just sad and really terrible? I hope the dog makes it but honestly, it will probably have so many health problems now. I dont know whats worse living with the guilt that you took him outside to play or if he lives with those problems.. this is so sad. I would be totally devastated

That is so sad....I wouldn't be able to get it out of my head either. I will say a prayer for this little dog & the owner.......

it is sad and scary.. and can happen to anyone... my toy poodle got into an altercation this past weekend with my in laws dog that could of ended ugly. We were having a big camp out in thier huge back field.. (several acres). They have a very obnoxous black lab that they adopted from a shelter about 2 months ago. Lola (the lab) is very hyper, has a ton of energy and, doesnt behave very well. On introduction to Lola and my dogs,( a few weeks ago) Lexee (my toy poodle) didnt like her, Lexee has had 2 other incidents with big dogs that came after her so she dislikes big dogs. I have kept the 2 of them apart, by not bringing my dog down there. Well, we were camping for the weekend so I had to bring my dogs with me, but I was very cautious about where Lola (she is allowed to just run) was at all times and Lexee was kept on the leash, well no matter how careful one can be accidents happen.. I was talking with some relatives at their camper , I had my dogs with me and out of nowhere Lola appeared running full force at my dogs. Before I could get Lexee up, the 2 were going at it. Lexee had launched all 4 pounds of her little body at Lola's face and Lola knocked Lexee down and had her pinned on the ground, belly up.. It happened in a split second and we had 6 people there trying to get it under control.. I grabbed Lola off from Lexee while my cousin grabbed Lexee off the ground. Lexee did end up with a small wound on her back and she was very shaken up (as was everyone else watching) but I thank god everyday that she is still here. She could of been killed. :(
I will keep that little dog in my thoughts and prayers.

This is very sad,poor dog.
A lot of people who live in my complex have big dogs. Everytime I take louis out , one of them wants to play and of course I FREAK OUT. YES YOUR PUPPY IS ONLY 5 MONTHS AND MINE IS 6 MONTHS BUT YOURS HAS A 30 LBS DIFFERENCE! Ugh. It upsets me when they leave their dogs unleashed. Grrrrrr. And this is why I\'m always protecting louis. Ugh. Call me crazy but I love him too much to see him get hurt.

Thats horrible, I always wondered how those fences worked just because I couldn\'t understand how it would keep a dog in. But that just explains it all. I feel horrible for that woman and I pray her dog pulls through and is healthy.

I have the other kind of problem. Lately since we\'ve been out at the park with our bullie more often this month I have come to realize ALOT of people let their smaller sized dogs run loose and up to my bullie. I don\'t feel comfortable with strange dogs coming up to her because you just never know if they will "like" each other or what. Sometimes the owners even "pretend" like Oh I didn\'t my dog was loose or got away from me. It is kind of annoying because we always pick a nice secluded spot and people WILL see us and come up and let their dogs go just to come up to ours. We always grab her and put her leash on and usually just pick her up, shes not that big but still it really disturbs me, they could just ask first!

invisible fence i think the collars have to have batteries dont they? ? most liekely her dog wont make it horrible to say but hopefully it will how awful!!!! people just dont seem to really care !

What a horrible thing to happen!! that poor little guy...and that poor woman!! That must have been a horrible site. I hope and pray he makes it.

Poor little dog. It happens way too often. I talked to a grooming client of mine today and her dog got attacked by a pitbull last week. It grabbed the dog by the throat and tried to kill it. They managed to get to dog away, but it\'s ear was bitten and it\'s throat. Fortunately the dog is going to be o.k. People laugh because I have my dog in a stroller a lot, but go ahead and laugh. I feel safer with her in it...

Very sad, and totally and completely preventable which makes it all the worse. Our baby exercises in our fenced yard. Walks are in a stroller. I could care less what anybody says, she will stay safe and sound in her little limo!

Poor baby :( this happens far to often, owners need to be more responsible and rely on more then something like an invisible fence to keep their pets contained.
