Maddie got stung by a bee today! I'm not sure why yorkies have a fascination with bugs, but Maddie can spot a bug meters away! She was sniffing outside for the "right" potty spot and she got stung by a bee! (well, I assume she got stung). I saw the bee and before I could move her away she let out a little cry. She whined for about 30 minutes when we got inside. I couldn't see anything. When I brushed her little face tonight she yelped when I hit a certain spot. Poor baby. I feel bad for her! |
This happened to Lucas about a week ago! We heard a yelp and he ran under the bed and hid for a half hour! Poor thing. On a strange note, my name is Maddie and I got stung today too...I thought that was pretty weird :p I hope your Maddie feels better! |
Guess the bees were only hunting down Maddie's today! :D Although I wish it was me rather than her! Not sure if dogs can be allergic to bee stings like people, but at least I know she isn't! |
So true!! Now whenever Lucas is on the deck and sees a wasp, the tail is between the legs and he is hiding under a chair somewhere! |
Griffin is four months tommorrow and has already been stung twice! |
Fwi Usually, when people or animals get stung by a bee or wasp, they aren't allergic to the first sing, second or so (some are)...It's after repeated stings that people or animals will suddenly develop an allergic reaction, usually anaphalactic...Best thing to have on hand is Benadry (childrens formula only for our babies), and know the correct dosage for the pup (or human)...Just a small measure to go by, Apple is 4 lbs. 6 ounces and her dose would be 1.7 ml...I just had her weighed, yesterday, and asked the proper dosage from the vet, and this is what he told me...so, adjust accordingly...I do keep benadryl, on hand, especially in the summer, because the bees/wasps are really active then...Soooo glad your baby is o.k. |

Good for Lucas!!! Smart Boy!!! |
Ahhh. Poor little Maddie. Hope she is still doing okay. My first Yorkie was stung by a bee once. She just kept holding her paw out like she was in pain. It was so sad. Hope the pain for Maddie goes away soon. |
Glad your baby is okay. To help ease the pain you can make a paste using meat tenderizer and water. In the early 90's I lost one of my top show Shar-Pei's to an allergic reaction to a bee sting. I looked out back to see him knawing on our wooden fence and he was breathing heavily when I went out to ck on him. We rushed him to the vet and the vet could not figure out what was wrong with him but could tell his vitals were going down. He died within several minutes after our arrival. We had him sent to A&M University for an autopsy and we were told he had an acute allergic reaction to a bee sting. We were shocked. It is rare but unfortunately does happen. I personally hate being stung... |
you can rub some garlic on the wound; it will reduce the swelling and inflamation |
My Biewer Bianca (7months old and 4.6lbs ) got stung by a bee and I had to rush her to the vet. Within 5 minutes after being stung she vomited and was shaking and going down hill pretty fast. She couldn't keep her head up. She even pooped on my floor. I gave her some nutri - cal which seemed to help her until I got her to the vet for a shot. I really thought I was losing her. My vet is 15 to 20 minutes away and I thought I would never get there. They gave her 2 shots and some more nutri-cal and she bounced back. She is very tired and seems to have just a little discomfort around her mouth. I tried putting ice on her face but she didn't want it. I then put a cold compress and she was ok with that for about 10 minutes. She is resting now and I thank god that she didn't die on me. I will be keeping benadryl in my medicine cabinet for now on. |

Finally she doesn't yelp when I brush her little face. I guess she wasn't too traumatized because she is back outside chasing them again! I pay closer attention this time to see if I can find them. I usually just look for trash and dog poop when Maddie is outside to make sure she doesn't get in to it, but I guess I will add bees and wasps to the picture too. She is lucky she is so cute with all the work I put in for her! LOL |
