Is your male Yorkie completely potty-trained"?
 

Is your male Yorkie completely potty-trained"? I have had people say that their male Yorkie is potty trained. When they come over to my house the first thing their dog does is start lifting his leg. Are they only potty trained at home?

I have a male Yorkie that is 13 years old and was the easiest little guy in the world to potty train. Never has, and still doesn't lift his leg. I also have a male Yorkie that is 2 years old and although he doesn't mark at home, I wouldn't trust him ANYWHERE!!! HA The difference between the two...my oldest was neutered at a very young age and my younger male was bred once and then neutered. Maybe that is the key????

Toby is 2 1/2 and has never lifted his leg. He was neutered at about 6 months and I could say he was completely potty trained by about 9 months.

I have a 10 month old male Yorkie, Jackson, and he is 99.9% potty trained (I say this because he will still have an accident MAYBE once a month - if that, but usually they are my fault.) He has never ONCE peed or marked in another persons home. He was neutered at 6 1/2 months old and has never marked indoors.

Duke is 22 months and is NOT completely trained. He knows to go #1 and #2 on his pad but would still occasionally pee on the couch, especially recently and this is driving me crazy!
He was neutered at about 10 months. He lifts his legs outside but not inside.

Our 2 yr old is completely house trained (I could only dream of having him potty trained :D ) in our house.

For the most part, the other houses he would be in are homes with other dogs and one has several including puppies 2-3 times a year so there is almost always a "sign" of other dogs going in the house. When there, we watch him like a hawk and he'll usually walk up and we can tell he's about to hike and we'll just tell him "no" or if close enough, push his leg down. But if we don't, there's a chance he'll hike to mark. He's still unaltered at this point (another week or so)

The only other house he'll be at once in a while has no pets and he won't go anywhere but outside. But we still keep an eye on him and take or let him out often enough. We'll also make sure to walk him when there as that "always" gets everything moving quickly.

We have people that swear we're just not finding where he's marking in our house because he's unaltered, but he just doesn't. Persistent positive reinforcement training works! Same thing has work with our female now. At 9 months, in the last 3 months she's probably gone in the house 3-4 times but each time, when we see it, she tucks her ears and knows she shouldn't have. So off we go, outside to show her were it belongs.

People had told us to be sure to train them to go inside as well, on pads or paper, for bad weather etc. but I have to say, I think you have to draw the line. They either go outside or inside. We choose outside. However, for bad weather, I'll take them out on a porch or patio and allow them to go where ever they need to go. Its the only time they'll do it. They'll even go on the swim platform on our boat where an easy flush is right there. :D But we stick to consistent locations.

All ad though, they now have a doggy door in the wall going outside so they cna go whenever they need to. And the male is really good about going, and she'll follow along.

For training overall, they've made me realize the only reason they dont' or can't do anything we say is because we're screwing them up! :D They are smart as can be and if we are consistent, they'll pick something up within 2-3 tries. Of course that goes for bad habits as well!! :p

I think Thor is going to be one of those 99% potty trained males for the rest of his life. He won't mark in my home, office, stores, or any other normal area. However, if he smells another dog's pee, like at PetCo, or at his doggy daycare, he will make sure he gets a word in, so to speak.

He was neutered early but he looooooves to mark outside. He is also pad trained, so he knows it's okay to pee indoors sometimes, if it's in the right place.

We moved offices recently (he comes to work with me), AND his former owner came back to help with that, and he went to pieces. He pooped indoors a few times, and also peed. He knows where his pad is at work and uses it -- every time his first owner comes back, he starts peeing everywhere. Maybe because she never got him fully trained. :p
