Tucker's Ears Well, I said I didn't care what Tucker's ears would look like after his AAI surgery. The cast covered his head, with little holes on the sides for his ears. His ears were mashed down for 15 weeks. (He wore a brace before having his surgery.) However, now that he's healthy, I would love for his ears to stand straight up again. They both looked awful for a couple of days after the brace was removed They were sort of droopy, and stuck straight out to the sides. After a few days, his right ear stood straight again. His left ear corrected itself except for a little flop right at the top of the ear. So, he has one straight ear, and one floppy one. Mind you in view of the problems he has had , this is a minor thing I'm just so grateful that he's healthy. But it would be kind of nice if both ears were the same. He's nine months old. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just forget about it? He's adorable either way. Tucker's Mom |
im not sure but it sounds like they are working their way back up |
What is AAI surgery? |
Tucker's Ears Sorry. I've been talking about him for such a long time. I just assumed everyone knew what it was. Of course, I didn't until he was diagnosed. It's usually a congenital problem in the vertebrae of the neck. Part of the spinal cord is exposed, and can cause paralysis or instand death if left untreated. The correction is surgery. It's a long, drawn out risky, expensive procedure. The condition is called Atlantoaxial Instability or Subluxation. Several people on this web site have had dogs with this condition.Tucker had his surgery when he was six months old. He's nine months now, and is completely normal. Many people on Yorkietalk prayed him and me through it. It's a tough diagnosis to get. Tucker's Mom |
Thanks for explaining. I will pray for his speedy recovery. What kind of symptoms was he having that alerted you to the problem? |
Great to hear he is doing fine. I would not be concerned about his ears not both standing up. Rockies is the same way. They are gorgeous either way.:D |
