has any1 here ever sent their baby off to training camp?
 
How long did it take?

Turk has been gone since last Thursday. This is for one on one training at a private kennel. I have been working with him all summer on the house breaking, but he needed some 'professional guidance'. Our basic goal was to get him house trained and to learn the commands "sit", "stay", "lay", "come"....I knew it would take a few days, but I'm starting to miss my little guy! :( I hope I will get a call soon...

Samantha went every weekend overnight, then for 10 days. then two more weekends. It was hard. The ten days nearly killed me and we had to go visit her half way through. I told my sisters I gained a much greater appreciation of our mom's letting us go off to boarding school! But she loved it and has been going to her school (now referred to as her club) for day care once a week ever since. The training made her much happier and calmer and I have found it easier to add bits and pieces to it here at home.

But I know exactly how you feel!!!

No , but it sounds like something I need! Do you mind me asking how much something like that costs? I wonder if I have a place like that around here? Hmmm....

Wow!, it sounds like you did quite an intense training regimen!
Thank you for sharing your experience, vlccairo...that does make me feel better. I just hate the thought that he may think I have abandoned him forever. :( ORR, he could be having a good ole time and I'm worrying for nothing! lol This is the longest that my baby's been away from home, tho!

The trainer came highly recommended by my aunt, so I trust he's in good hands. I guess I will just have to hang tough for now.

Not at all!...the cost is $20 a day which seemed extremely reasonable to me. Doesn't basic boarding cost at least that much??

That is reasonable. What is the camp called? I should have found something like this earlier :rolleyes: ;)

lol I just call it "camp". The guy does dog training classes with his wife and then boarding as well. I called him up and told him my situation and he just agree'd to take Turk in for a few days to work with him one on one. Twenty dollars a day was just the random price he gave me off the top of his head when we were on the phone. I thought it was a good price and I jumped at it. If this does the trick, I will be THRILLED.

UPDATE!

I get to go get him tomorrow morning! :yay_jump:

The trainer tells me he's doing just great! :D He also confessed to me that yorkies weren't one of his favorite breeds, but he wouldn't mind keeping Turky. lol Sounds like my little guy won his heart! I'm so excited to see him I can't stand it! Hopefully, his new 'big boy' ways will stick here at home. *fingers crossed*

Well, I was pretty sure she would be ok because we visited in advance and she like the people and the place. She also LOVED Hesham, the 6'5" owner/trainer who has a Yorkie named Biscuit as a pet. But it sure was quiet around here.

I'm sure he'll maintain his training if you work with him at home. I would just put on Samantha's leash and run through what she'd learned for five minutes whenever I thought about it. She liked doing it and now when she's shadowing me around the house she is in perfect "heel" position with no command or leash.

Give Turk a big Congratulations and welcome home from me and Samantha.

Aww, that's so neat! Now I'm REALLY excited! I am so looking forward to him graduating from the kitchen and taking those annoying gates down!
