Puppy or adult? Help me decide! Ok so I am still in the search for my new baby. I thought for sure that I wanted to get a older puppy or adult. I got Roscoe at 9 months and he has been great. Well I have now seen a puppy that I just love and now I can't decide what to do! I have never really housetrained a puppy before because Roscoe was pretty much housetrained. We have a fenced in yard and that made it really easy to finish training him. (Although he still has a accident every now and then). Please help me decide! |
Wow, this is a tough one. I'm a first-time dog/puppy owner (had dogs as a kid but never owned one before now & I have 2!). I got Buster & Bailey in January when they were 11 weeks old. It has been frustrating at times, but is so awesome to have them for so much of their lives. I am glad that I got them when they were puppies, but I can understand why some people look for older dogs to adopt. There are so many methods to training that you can try - you just have to take the time to do it. You can improve the life of a rescue dog tremendously by adopting an older dog, however, those can come with issues that can make them harder to train than puppies. Ultimately, I think either way getting a new addition to your family will be work, but you have to almost meet them to determine if they are a right fit for your family. Good luck with your decision! |

I think Roscoe will have to help you, do you think he would like a puppy better or a older dog? I don't know about your boy but mine also likes girls better then boys. Keep us updated on what you do!!!! |
The puppy might well be on his way to house training. i know my pups are about 90-95 percent peepad trained when they leave me. i think their mam's train them. I know it's nothing I do. There are pros and conss to each choice. adults sometimes have issues as well. |
I think you should just follow your gut on this one, there is something special I have noticed in each of my dogs that made them mine without a doubt. When your baby comes along I think you will know it. I too am partial to the older puppies or adults. But when I saw Copper's sweet dark face he was only 10 weeks old, and after I held him and played with him I knew that he was my boy. Maddie was 5 months when I got her and it was all that attitude that made me choose her. Well, actually she chose me;) I think that you will just know:) |
Thanks guys for your input. The puppy that has me questioning myself is for sale on here. Melissa has him and his name is KO. I just kind of fell in love with him. Roscoe is 11 months and LOVES to play, so I don't think a puppy will be a problem. What about him being a male? Roscoe is neutered, do you think 2 males are ok? |
When I brought Rocky home he and Copper were instant friends, and neither one was altered. They slept together and wrestled and follow me arround the house together:rolleyes: When Rocky passed, Copper spent weeks looking and waiting for him. In my case the two males couldn't have been a better match for eachother. How is Roscoe with other boys? |

I had to go take a look at KO's thread. I can see why you fell in love! He is adorable! Is she close enough that you could go meet him? I would be soooooo tempted! Sorry, I don't have any advice as far as puppy vs adult. That will depend on which yorkie chooses you. Good luck! :) |
My boys play together better then my girls do :) Good luck and congrats :) |
what cuties!follow your heart. I had no problem with my two boys and Im adding a third soon. |
If youve fallen in love with the puppy I would get it. Everyone should have the opportunity to have a puppy at least once |

Thank you guys so much for all of your great feedback. I think I have decided to get little KO as long as my hubby agrees to a puppy. I am going to talk to him tonight. I just can't stop looking at the pictures of him. I have looked at tons of yorkies online and he has just captured me I think. Of course I have to be approved for him first too! Hope she approves me! |
