Therapy dog!
 
Snoopy has been in a class to learn to be a therapy dog and to pass the Canine Good Citizen test. And he passed! He was so good on everything, but he would not sit or down at school unless there were treats involved, :rolleyes: but you can't give treats during the test at all. But I guess he felt like sitting and lieing down at the proper time. :p Now I just have to send in the paperwork.

Does anyone here do therapy work?

Congratulations that's wonderful, I've often thought of that for Joey, I know nursing homes and some hospitals love to have little therapy dogs come to visit. At least when you are talking to him, people won't think you are nuts, you can just tell him he's a therapy dog!

Ahh Snoopy Izzy is so proud of you and it's nice to have another therapy dog buddy here on YT. Eddie (AlaskaYorkie) is also a therapy doggie here too. :thumbup::thumbup:

Whew the hard part is over!!! Now you get to go visit. Are you with Delta by chance? I'm in Ohio too so where are you going to visit?:D

But will they think I'm nuts when I answer for him? Haha! Whenever Snoopy and I are out in public with my daughter she always reminds my not to talk for him....but we both talk for him at home. :D

We went with Therapy Dogs International, just because that's who the school goes through. I plan on going to nursing homes. My MIL was in one and the people there didn't seem to respond to people, but they had a resident cat, and everyone would perk up when she walked by.

I think Yorkies are perfect for this because they're non-allergenic, and can fit on someone's lap, or get picked up to say hello. And we tell Snoopy he makes the world a better place just be being in it!

Check out tdi-dog.org. Tons of info, including where the testing is being held. You don't have to take a class, but I didn't think I could get Snoopy ready on my own.

That's so cool, I know seeing a little yorkie will make them feel much better.

Congrats that is so cool for the both of you! I am wanting to possibly learn more about it, my parents own an adult foster care home and the residents love to visit with my two.

That is so cool! And you are right about people in nursing homes. I've taken Molly in to see DH's grandmother, and had to stop with every resident that was out in the hall. People's eyes would just light up!

My only problem was that Molly's nails cut Grandma's delicate skin, and I didn't even think they were long at the time. I'd like to take her back, but scared to hurt someone. Do you have any suggestions?

Do you trim the nails yourself, or do you have it done for you? Some people suggest that filing the nail down, after trimming, leaves no sharp edges. Joey's breeder trims the nails really short, much shorter than other groomers, and said that if you replace your nail cutters often you won't leave jagged edges, the sharper the better for the nail cutter I mean. Also, walks on concrete will file the nails down, but I know what you mean, the skin can become like tissue paper. My other thought would be wearing little booties, Molly would love that! :D

Sugar and I have been approached in our area for her to become a therapy dog. Another member of this board lives close to us and has experience in this also. We are looking forward to getting involved :aimeeyork:thumbup:
