OMG.....Help!!! I am so worried my Apple keeps gaining weight and I don't know why:( She's 2 yrs old and should be weighing 4 1/2 lbs. In 2 months she's gained 2 1/2 lbs and I don't know why. Vet is also worried because she has small legs and he says that's too much weight on her small knees. I just don"t understand what's going on nothing has changed I feed them twice a day 1/3 cup Natural Balance sweet potato/fish with small teaspoon of trader joe's lamb and rice canned food with a little raw oatmeal sprinkled on top. That's all she gets no treats or anything just chewing bones. All of the yorkies eat exactly same thing she's only one gaining so much weight. Vet just said she needs too lose the weight but didn't tell me how when I asked she just smiled:rolleyes: ok that didn't answer my question I even have her on treadmull everyday for 20 min and still no weight loss:( Appreciate some advice |
Hey Irma Is Apple spayed? Momo has gained 1.5lbs since his neuter. I've reduced his food by 1/3 suggested by my vet & I feed mine NB SP & Venison. Mimi's daughter & son (also spayed & neutered) keeps gaining weight also...what to do. We go walking everyday for 20-30 mins. They're very active sporadically throughout the day. I've cut their treats (Fruitables) to one a day, maybe I should stop treats? Someone mentioned on YT that maybe it's their metabolism...? |
When my Bella was diagnosed with Collapsed Trachea earlier this year the very first thing my Vet recommended was for her to "lose weight". Another YTNR foster mom recommended trying Canidae Platinum (senior/over weight dogs) dry kibbles. My Vet also recommended cutting the serving size recommended on the packaged to be reduced by a 1/3. He reminded me that Dog Food companies are interested in selling more dog food and will always recommend more to sell more. In the meantime, Bella has come down from 14 lbs to 12.3 in a few short months. She was a lil' cranky at first when her meals were reduced in size...but, like humans...she adjusted and now is perfectly content with her meals. ps. Another important thing that I did was to have her Thyroid checked to rule out anything metabolic, too. She was negative. Hope this info helps you... |
First, did the vet do bloodwork? If nothing has changed and she was doing well on the amount of food you give them, then there may be a medical problem involved. If that has been ruled out, you can try a senior dog food or one meant for weight loss or you can replace some of her normal food with certain vegetables to make her feel full. If that doesn't work, she will likely need a prescription weight loss diet. |

Vet did do bloodwork that's one thing our vet always checks she's pretty good about that. Everything was fine with bloodwork. I think I'll try the Canidae Senior/overweight dry kibble. That's good idea. And, no she's not spayed. I also read on a YT post to cut food in half and put veggies. I think I will try that too. Hi Jenny! Good luck with your furbabies Thanks everyone |
