My yorkie looks sad sometimes My yorkie looks so sad sometimes. He just plops down and put his chin on his front paws and looks at me. He does this when he wants to play and I have to do other things. How can I help him understand that I do want to play with him but i have to take care of other stuff first? He makes me feel really bad, like I'm a bad mommy. I love him so much and would do anything for him, but sometimes there are things I have to get done before we can play. i feel guilty like, I don't spend enough time with him. HELP!!! Yoda momma |
Join the club! Yorkies have worked for generations to perfect this look! It is similar to The Jewish Mother's Sigh to make ya feel guilty. My mother wasn't even Jewish, but she had that sigh down to a tee. Higgins has that look when he sits in front of me while I'm at my desk. He whines, I look, he gives me "the look", I turn back to my work, he barks, I look, he gives me "the look", and so it goes until one of us gives up.....and it is almost never Higgins who gives up.......sigh........ |
Yeah, we're not sure what to do when Yoda does this to us. Such a little guilt trip monster at times!!! |
Do you ever "run" Yoda out? In other words, put him on a leash, make him run, tire him out, so when he gets home, he sleeps for three hours? |
All the time! :) We also let him have it with his humping toys any time he wants. But sometimes he STILL just wants our attention, I think that's what vaughn is getting at. Or sometimes we get home late and really don't have time to take him out to play or the weather is crappy... |
Sounds like Yoda needs a treadmill, like Astro has on "The Jetsons." |
Yoda needs his PERSONAL treadmill, I think, cuz he is scared to bits about ours. We've tried to get him on it, at super slow speeds, but he looks at us like we're crazy, and he'll leap away first chance we get. I would have no idea how to train him to use one. :) |
When my English Setter was a show dog, her trainer put her on a dog treadmill every day to keep her in tip-top shape. It is a treadmill whose height can be adjusted and the trainer stands at the rail and holds the dog on its lead very firmly ALL THE TIME. Otherwise, treadmills can be extremely dangerous to all dogs. We don't need a treadmill for Higgy. He has two speeds: Stop and Full Speed. He is developing some nice sleek muscle, that little guy. His tug strength is improving! |

Yup, and they are QUITE PRICY too Junebug. We tried getting Yoda on it, but he's much too smart for us. Plus we don't want his lil' paws getting stuck on the side of the machine trying to get out... Check out the below link for pictures and price... Did I hear Otis begging for one? :P http://www.jogadog.com/dc6.html |
"The Toto" can beg all day long and she isn't getting one!! We will just continue to exercise her the "old fashioned way" [call our 14 yr. old granddaughter, Kayla over to play with her! :p ] |
I'm always tempted to bring Otis to the gym with me. If he can't run the treadmill, he can dub as a 7-pound weight! (Notice I didn't say "dumbell.") Anyway, I prefer to take him on walks outside, where he can sniff other dogs' markings, catch fleas, and run through people's sprinklers. That's part of the plan that comes with owning a dog...taking them on walks. |
...."running through sprinklers".....reminds me that Higgins LOVES to play in the hose spray! Mind you, he hates a bath, but just adores chasing the hose spray....... |
Heheh, anyone gotta Slip N Slide? Those wet yellow tarps with water sprinkling on them, I bet Yorkies would love to go through that (after they learn how to slide)! |
